The movie industry stands as one of the largest and most influential sectors worldwide, and it’s no surprise that artificial intelligence (AI) is used to revolutionize it. With advancements in AI occurring daily, it’s becoming increasingly evident that the future of filmmaking will be drastically transformed. Picture a future where actors no longer need to physically be in locations to bring scenes to life; instead, they could simply authorize the use of their bodies, with AI generating the action seamlessly.

Consider the Hanuman movie as an example. You’ve probably seen it around — the creative countdown posters and memorable music. Well, the director shared some interesting news that they used AI tools like GPT and Mid Journey for creating those posters, and for handling various CGI tasks in the movie. Moreover, AI’s involvement helped in reducing the overall budget significantly.

Other famous movies like Indiana Jones, Here starring Tom Hanks, etc., have used AI to make their aging actors look young again. The Mandalorian series used AI to create super realistic virtual environments. Additionally, by utilizing GANs, it is possible to bring back old actors, offering fans a chance to see them on the big screen once more. So, it’s clear that AI will become more cost-effective and convenient for producers, making them more inclined to incorporate AI into their films.

AI in ANIMATION

So… I am casually scrolling through LinkedIn and came across this new AI tool called SORA by OPENAI. Let me tell you, I was shocked by what I just saw. This AI tool can convert your prompts into videos. So, what makes it so special? Tools like this are rapidly being launched every day, and recently, there hasn’t been a single day where I haven’t seen a new development in the field of AI. The specialty lies in its level of detail, and the quality of the video is insane, literally insane. Just take a look at this video.

Generally, a Disney animated movie has a budget between $50 and $100 million and takes 2–4 years to complete, with over 100 animators involved. However, thanks to tools like Mid Journey, Sora, Keyframer, etc., animation can be completed much more efficiently. This is a game-changer for animated movies. While these tools are still in the development stage, they are rapidly improving, allowing for more realistic visual effects, enhanced lighting, and better camera angles. However, AI alone cannot create an entire film as it lacks emotional intelligence and creativity. Instead, it serves as a valuable tool to simplify tasks and streamline the animation process.

Perhaps soon, we’ll see movies that adapt automatically based on viewer emotions, adjusting the storyline and pacing to cater to what audiences enjoy the most. Additionally, advancements in AI could enable real-time dubbing of movies into regional languages, opening up cinematic experiences to a wider audience worldwide. These possibilities hint at an exciting future where technology continues to revolutionize the way we experience and interact with films.

By the way, this marks my second article in the “AI Unleashed” series. If you haven’t checked out my previous blog exploring the connection between AI and Hindu mythology — it’s an interesting read
