Following Apps for Preschool Kids and Apps for 5–7 Year Olds here are some apps for tweens play-tested and enjoyed by a 9 year old boy and 11 year old girl. These are apps that can be set up so there are no ads, and in-app purchases are not necessary to play. As before will list app publishers as they often have more than one good app. Many of these games are also fun for adults…

  1. Stampede Games (stampedegames.net)
Most played: .projekt and Evo Explores
  2. DragonBox (dragonbox.com)
Most played: Algebra 12+. These guys were also on the last two lists for younger kids, they do great educational apps.
  3. Open Source Games
A few games don’t have fancy websites, they are open source and available on Google Play, but also via F-Droid. In the screenshot above these are Anuto TD, Lexica, and TowerJumper. There’s a list with more good games available on F-Droid on Tinfoil My Life, these are great for completely avoiding ads and in-app purchases.
