Born To Run, in partnership with Juven, and sponsored by Virgin Atlantic, held its Road to London Challenge Launch Run on 22nd March, at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Sports Centre in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong.
Runners at the launch event were joined by renowned sub-3 marathon runner Mr. Kam Hung Yeung, who was brought in to share his long-distance running techniques and equipment with attendees, and coach them up to best form.
“There’s basically nothing different between a virtual run and a real race, with two exceptions. The first is that virtual runners can arrange their run to suit their own lifestyle, speed, place and rhythm. Hence, the overall experience might be more difficult for runners to grasp.
“Secondly, runners should maintain their physical abilities at a stable and high level, in order to simulate a real race. Though many virtual runners have in fact joined real-life races, so I’m fairly confident in their performance,” Mr. Yeung opined.
The atmosphere was lively as the 3km launch run. Coach “Golden Hair” not only introduced attendees to the basics of marathon running, but also shared some how-tos regarding joining events overseas.
One of the attendees Mr. Choi shared his thoughts on the evening, “I personally love sports. But I am not too crazy about running. Naturally, my goal for joining this virtual run is so that I can hopefully win a flight to London and join the Glow in the Park London running event as well.
“Moreover, I can also give back to the community, as some of the entrance fee is donated to charity. I really enjoyed the atmosphere tonight, and “Golden Hair” shared with us on the joy of running, and tips on how to integrate exercise with day-to-day life. It really felt just like a gathering of friends, ” he said.
