Guess the Reporter

What reporter recently reminded us that there are 46,500 reporters in the U.S to 208,000 PR people? (Clue: He is a West Coast reporter.)

October newsletter answer: Ron Miller, TechCrunch (Ron Miller)

Karbo Com Highlights

The first quarter of 2016 was a very exciting and busy time for Karbo Communications. We welcomed four new clients, attended company kickoffs for many of our existing clients, welcomed new members of the team and celebrated another birthday.

Here are a few of our team members celebrating our Vice President, Margaret Pereira’s, birthday at Momo’s with a lovely view of AT&T Park.

Of course, none of this would get done without regular team coffee trips to Philz Coffee and delicious lunches from our favorite local restaurants like Marlowe.

Want to be part of the team? We’re hiring!

We are looking for a rock star Account Executive or Senior Account Executive to join our team in the San Francisco office. If you’re passionate about technology, have at least two years of PR experience and want to help great companies succeed, email your resume and a brief cover letter to info@karbocom.com. Employee Spotlight

Emily Carey, Account Executive

Emily had her own exciting news this quarter, announcing her engagement to fiance, Ryan Singer. Emily and Ryan started dating more than four years ago at the University of Oregon and are planning for a July 2017 wedding in Lake Tahoe.

Q: What advice would you offer an aspiring PR professional?

A: Think long and hard about what type of PR you want to pursue or in what industry. It is our job as PR pros to read and understand the news relevant to our clients, be invested in their products and services, and recognize trends in the industry. It makes your job much more enjoyable and exciting when you’re interested in the topic or market, which is why I wanted to pursue tech PR. If I had to do the same work in the fashion industry, I would hate my job.

Q: What is your favorite “non-work” hobby?

A: Attending country concerts and supporting up-and-coming country artists. Think of any country artist. I’ve seen them and probably more than twice. If there is a country concert in town (or driving distance, like Stagecoach), I’m there.

Q: What is your favorite movie of all time?

A: Beauty and the Beast

Q: Tell us something we wouldn’t know about you.

A: I have perfect handwriting. I hate chocolate, whipped cream, icing and caramel. I can recite any Friends quote on command. I carry “emergency” salt in my wallet in case I find myself eating somewhere that doesn’t have it.

Tech Tidbits

“Don’t start a company unless it’s an obsession and something you love. If you have an exit strategy, it’s not an obsession.” — Mark Cuban, tech mogul, Shark Tank investor and owner of the Dallas Mavericks @mcuban (Mark Cuban)

Client Highlights

Townsquared, the online community and mobile app designed to help small businesses connect and share resources with each other, has had a busy quarter announcing the launch of the community in Seattle at the end of January. Seattle marks the fourth city Townsquared has launched in, after San Francisco, New York and Oakland. The Karbo Com team secured a feature article in Seattle’s NBC KING 5 News as well as a broadcast interview with Townsquared Co-founder, Nipul Patel.

In February, Karbo Com secured Townsquared a feature in PC Mag’s new Start-Up Spotlight series, detailing the Townsquared story — from the initial concept to the company’s expansion plans — including interviews with Co-founders Rohit Prakash and Nipul Patel. Additionally, the account team placed Nipul to be included as an expert in the Washington edition of Business News Daily’s ongoing series, “The State of Small Business” — which focuses on the small business climate in each state across the country.

ABBYY, a leading global provider of content capture, recognition and cognitive language-based technologies and solutions, began working with Karbo Com this January. In early February, ABBYY announced the availability in North America of its new Compreno technology — the industry’s most comprehensive language-based technology for smart business process applications with the ability to understand contextualized word meanings. Karbo Com secured coverage in key target publications such as FierceContent Management, KMWorld, Document Imaging Report, IT Business Edge, and Oil, Gas & Petrochem Equipment. On top of the media hits, Karbo Com also secured briefings for ABBYY with a number of analyst firms, including industry leaders Gartner and Forrester.

In March, ABBYY made a number of announcements regarding partnerships with other organizations. First, ABBYY teamed up with the National Forest Foundation on its Go Green campaign, aiming to reduce paper waste through ABBYY technology and to plant 20,000 trees in the Chippewa National Forest. Later in the month, ABBYY LS announced a major brand licensing agreement with Xerox to create Xerox Easy Translator Service, the industry’s first cloud-enabled language translation solution.
