Concerning wallet.near.org and what’s to come, addressing the Indexer issue

Hey NEAR Community, this is Kate L from MyNearWallet. I am here to talk about all the rumours, news and concerns bubbling up in the NEAR community about wallet.near.org, the indexer, the balances issue and the whole transition process.

I am happy to answer all of your questions and I am here to underline: we are promoting decentralization and making sure the transition process is fair and competitive.

Let’s cover all the questions, one by one!

Alternatively, this discussion and answers from Pagoda can be viewed here.

API (Kitwallet) and Access to it

wallet.near.org transition

  • The current web wallet codebase will be migrated to the MyNearWallet team.
  • More details on timelines and processes will be shared in August.
  • The wallet will remain open-sourced, so anyone can contribute or fork it.
  • wallet.near.org will become a page listing all the ecosystem wallets — to promote decentralization and provide the community with a fair share of choices.
  • More details to come — August 17th!

Decentralization, Transparency, Fair Competition

  • The NEAR Foundation team will not have an official wallet.
  • wallet.near.org is migrating to an independent team at MyNearWallet in order to promote decentralization and fair competition, and to provide the community with a variety of options.
  • The userbase will NOT be moved to the wallet — users will be able to choose from the list.
  • MyNearWallet team will continue to work on the legacy wallet features and add new ones.
  • Wallet developers will be able to add their wallets to the list of curated wallets (via wallet-selector).
  • All the DApps in the ecosystem are encouraged to use the wallet-selector.
  • More details about wallet selector and how to get added to our curated list August

Thank you and stay tuned!
