Catchup/Recovery plans must cater for the challenges of an unreliable supply chain and depleted manpower globally. There will be a need of reprioritisation of works, reapplications of approvals and loads of paperwork resolved before activities on the site can be resumed. …

With a few clicks and information from you, your first project will be ready.

Lean PlanDo asks for very few details to create the project. Choose the “production” mode to start using the product. We require other basic info like if you are a client or a contractor and the size of lookahead. We support 6 week and 8 week lookahead sizes. Well, the lookahead meetings are basically consultation sessions where lean consultants will help you in hand-holding of the application and lean planning methodologies. These meetings are disciplined to be held on a specified day every week to update past weeks progress, commit the works for coming week and plan out future works. …

We’ve all read the articles that say “Messy people are more creative” or “Messy people are better problem solvers” or any of a hundred other titles. We read these titles and think that it’s ok to be messy because an article says so but we’ve all felt otherwise. We have always felt that our lives would be at least a little better if we were better organised. Maybe we could have found things faster or done things faster. The next session of Thought Sprouts aims at tackling this issue. The talk will show us frameworks / methods we can all use to become a little more structured and organised in the things that we do. …

The talk aimed to introduce the concept of lean frameworks to construction companies for them to transform into a lean and digital company, aligned together with the Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) implementation roadmap of the Construction Industry Transformation Map (CITM).

The event was covered in “Bornea Bulletin”, the independent newspaper in Brunei Darussalam. Read more here.

Situation

Gauging the state of construction industry is tricky at the best of the times, now, the task is even more difficult — and critical — than usual due to the coronavirus (Covid 19) outbreak.

The dependence of Singapore on China for labour and construction material will have impact on construction projects and companies have started to plan for the worst to cut their losses. You might be one of them who might be hard hit with the situation.

The current gauge of the impact of this Covid 19 outbreak on Singapore’s construction market is quite hard to be determined especially when we are still part of this crisis. However the slowdown in China’s economy is quite evident with over 40% dip in the average coal burn at major power companies in china. Three sectors —building materials, metals smelting and chemicals — have together accounted for around 54% of China’s overall electricity demand from these power companies in the past 5 years. It is certain that the supply chain of the construction materials will be disrupted and the impact will be seen in the coming weeks to months. …

Cows were not even a topic of discussion a few years ago. But now cows are taking the centre stage on discussions ranging from ecology, economy, culture to healthcare. Why is it that Indians see the cow with such reverence when most of the world sees them as a source of food? Why is it that organisations like Dakshin Vrindavan have come up to take care of abandoned cows? What constitutes their success? Why cows now? These are some of the questions will be talked on in our upcoming session of Thought Sprouts on Wed, 26 Feb 2020.

You are welcome to join and contribute..

Lean PlanDo gets mentioned in The Strait Times, a national daily of Singapore, in the business article titled “JTC’s tech efforts lead to jump in productivity” on Jan 28, 2020. The article talks about how Jurong Trade Corporation (JTC) has been able to boost productivity in construction projects using digital technologies, Lean PlanDo being one of them.

Mr. Wong Wee Loong, JTC’s Director of Building Projects told the Strait Times, “It also worked with local start-up Lean Station to roll out a scheduling system called Lean PlanDo… Our approach is to take the lead and work closely with partners in the use of data and digital technologies from the start of each project. Hopefully once they finish our projects and see the benefits of this integrated digital delivery (IDD), they will actually install it within their organisations and also push it to other projects, not just in JTC, even with private sector outside Singapore”. …
