It’s normal to feel afraid or discouraged at the prospect of a future that includes panic attacks. Know that there are ways to reduce their frequency and severity, and ways to take care of yourself when they do happen.

Obsessive concern about whether you’ll have a panic attack can be almost as debilitating as the attacks themselves. It’s important to find a balance between avoiding things that you know are unhealthy and avoiding things that are necessary for a full life.

The best way to address the fear of future panic attacks is to work with a mental health professional. There is a wide range of treatments to help prevent them — some are pharmaceutical, some are not.
