English Grammar: Too/Either/Neither

These terms can be used to express agreement or show similarity. Do you know how to use them correctly?

Too

Too is used in affirmative form for agreeing.

This is an important point to remember. We ONLY use too in affirmative statements, not negative ones.

➕ I read a lot.

✅ I read a lot too.

✅ Me, too.

➕ London is a big city.

✅ Paris is a big city too.

We can use “also” and “as well” as alternatives to “too”.

I also read a lot.

I read a lot as well.

Either / Neither

Either and neither can also be used to for agreeing with someone, or stating that something is similar to another / others, but in negative form.

➖ I don’t understand.

✅ I don’t understand either.

✅ Me, neither.

❌ I don’t understand too.
