Business trip diary that turned into surprisingly good bites tour.

It’s my 4th time in Czech Republic and all my previous gastro experience could be packed into 3 words — beef, dumplings, trdelnik. So this time I’ve done the homework and made a list of places that you will not usually find on a tourist map.

Maso a Kobliha

Ox tongue Slider

The introduction of this gastropub and butcher shop should not start with the food but with the man who runs this place — Paul Day. Englishman in Prague, creative chef, owner of Maso a Kobliha and Sansho across the street, butcher at Real meat society and just a very pleasant person you can easily meet around 3 pm and have a quick chat while eating your Pork skin with avocado dip served by the chef himself.

Must-eat here:

  1. Scotch egg
  2. Pork skin
  3. Ox tongue

Sisters

Chlebichek at Sisters

If you do sometimes watch National Geographic channel you must be familiar with Street Food around the world show by Ishai Golan. In its Czech Republic series he mentioned a chlebichek — a traditional open sandwich with mind blowing topping variations. But when you go to Sisters you find a modern and ambient version of Chlebichek nicely served on a white Victorian plates which adds some sharm to every bite.

Do Try:

  1. Horse reddish and cream chlebichek
  2. Shrimp and egg chlebichek
  3. Potato salad chlebichek
  4. Home made soup of the day

Nase Maso

Beef burger

Nase Maso means “our meat” and I would personally give this place a Michelin star just for the pork belly they cook here. Basically this is a butcher shop with high quality organic local meat and first thing you mention approaching it is people eating these super juicy burgers. At Nase Maso they cook you the meat right from the shelf and trust me it’s out of this world.

Must-eat:

  1. Beef burger
  2. Pork belly
  3. Beef tartar

Food and Wine market

Cheese and meet plate

To fully enjoy the marketplace you have to know a couple of things. First, it’s a decent italian gourmet shop where you can get authentic food and wine. Second, there’s also a restaurant in the same building serving the best pastas in the whole city. Third, ask for the cheese and meat plate in the shop (take a bit of everything), Grab a glass of perfectly cooled pinot grigio at the restaurant and enjoy the italian corner in Prague.

Suggestions:

  1. Pasta
  2. Cheese plate
