MEDIA Protocol are founding members of the Digital Future Council (DFC), a think tank that brings together creative leaders and technology innovators to discuss and collaborate on implementing key technology (with a primary focus on blockchain) within creative industries.

The DFC debuted at Cannes Lions this year, and the event was really well attended.

There was a real buzz and great atmosphere at the DFC villa as the membership hosted roundtables, dinners and town hall discussions on the topic of blockchain technology and how it can fit into legacy industries such as the media and creative sectors.

Great People, Great Conversations

MEDIA Protocol was proud to be alongside some big names within the crypto space like TLDR, Kenetic, Wachsman and AdEx as sponsors of the DFC event. Starting the conversation about blockchain and its potential within the creative and media sector as part of a highly experienced team of sponsors, added to the excitement and buzz around the villa. There was a real sense of being at the start of something big.

Over the course of the week, the MEDIA Protocol team enjoyed some great conversation, both scheduled and during impromptu chats around the pool at the villa, with a host of high-profile names from media industry leaders like Vice, Universal and LEGO. There was certainly a diverse range of conversations going on.

One of the highlights of the week was Nodeunlock founder, Elliott Callender’s, lively session introducing the world of blockchain with some great interactive games — think musical chairs and treasure hunts!

That’s the beauty of the DFC, by hosting the event at a villa rather than a conference centre or hall it kept a fun and informal atmosphere, which was great for stimulating sociable and innovative chatter.

The discussion led by Alice Lloyd George (RRE), Alex Yamashita (TLDR) and Ivo Georgiev (AdEx) exploring the use of cryptocurrency in media and advertising, was another session that the MEDIA Protocol team particularly enjoyed.

MEDIA Protocol have a strong belief in the benefits of utilising the blockchain for advertising, so it was inspiring to hear lively debates about the future potential.

We’ve explored a number of different areas of using blockchain for marketing — you might want to start here:

On Tuesday MEDIA Protocol’s own CEO, James Tabor, was joined by Sony Music’s Stacey Tang, to lead a discussion exploring what the future of content ownership might look like.

James was thrilled to take part in such a lively, animated discussion and it was great to hear and share such wide and varied views.

“MEDIA Protocol are proud to be founding members of the DFC. Having spent so long building technology in and around the advertising space, we believe it is vital that there is real discussion around the future of the industry. Instead of Marketeers and Technologists talking around each other, and not understanding how the others’ worlds work. DFC brings these worlds together and encourages discussion and experimentation,” said James Tabor of the event.

A Vocal, Vibrant Villa

One of the greatest successes of the DFC launch was that it moved the action away from the main Cannes Lions event.

While the hustle and bustle of the waterfront is always vibrant and exciting, by moving the DFC event to a secluded villa, the attendees gained an intimate and informal setting that inspired fun and thought-provoking chat. The relaxed vibe of the villa meant that stuffy pitches and long-winded speeches were left behind and the focus was shifted to interactive and engaging talks, events and dinners.

By breaking down the often complex nature of blockchain, the DFC launch was a welcoming event for both blossoming blockchainers and industry experts.

What’s The Buzz?

The aim of the DFC launch at Cannes Lions was to get marketers, brands and blockchain experts to connect and simply talk about the future, and how blockchain can be of mutual benefit.

One of the hottest topics on the menu was the use of blockchain in the real world; something we have written about recently — How Does Blockchain Integrate With The Real World? So, the team were thrilled to get the chance to talk to a range of brands and blockchain experts to discuss MEDIA Protocol’s applications.

We also got the chance to share our opinions on the Tokenisation of URLs with a number of brands. It was great to be able to take part in so many animated discussions and get real-time feedback from experts and industry leaders.

James Tabor, CEO, was very optimistic, “We are already talking to a number of DFC members about what they would like to build on top of MEDIA Protocol, and they are finding new and exciting ways all the time. It’s great to be a part of it.”

Shaping The Digital Future

In addition to creating an innovative and game-changing protocol, the team at MEDIA Protocol are helping to inspire further change, developments and innovation in the creative digital technology space.

Attendance at events like the DFC launch not only help to showcase the protocol, but also inspire others to follow suit, building the future of blockchain technology and its applications.
