Google Ads are one of the best ways to get clients to your business essentially because you can reach people who are searching for the services you offer in the moments that matter

But, many people find it difficult to scale their Google Ad campaigns and remain profitable; so, what should you do? Let's have a look at 7 Google Ad hacks that we use to remain profitable while scaling on Google Ads.

1. Create In-Depth Remarketing Audiences

Did you know that Click through rates for remarketing audiences are roughly 10 times higher and the Cost per Click is 20 to 80 times less than a traditional first impression ad views? That’s a huge difference!

So, create detailed remarketing audiences for people who have already been to your site more than once. It will help you get a better click-through rate at a lower cost per click. Giving you more ROI for every dollar you spend.

2. Focus your efforts on Longtail Keywords

Most marketers just focus on generalised keywords, just because they have a high search volume this makes them very competitive. However, they aren’t always the best converting keywords.

The real money is in the longtail keywords. For example; the keyword ‘Diet Plan’ has a CPC of $4 with 40,000 monthly searches and has a ‘Paid Difficulty’ of 70.

Whereas, the keyword ‘Diet Plan Low Carb’ has CPC of only $1.50 with about 12,100 monthly searches and a Paid Difficulty of only 42. But the main point is, someone searching for this keyword has a specific goal in mind and is more likely to convert than someone searching for just a Diet Plan.

Some might say, Diet Plan has more search volume so why not go after it? Well, you are right but what you will find that you will get a lot of irrelevant clicks that might not be ready to convert yet. So, start from longtail keywords because you tend to generate more revenue from them and in many cases, they have a lower CPC.

3. Use Exclusions like your life depends on it

Don’t be afraid to use exclusions. They are a great way to find hyper-focused audiences and get high lifetime value customers. Suppose you know from your buyer persona that your audiences business owners only — you can exclude all the people who are currently employed or have a job other than their own. Boom! your ads are now being seen only by the people who matter giving you a better bang for the buck. Exclusions are your friends — they allow you to spend money with the people who are more likely to convert.

4. Test different locations

Location-based ad campaigns are very effective and more likely to convert. Create segments based on locations. There are 3 ways in which you can target location in an ad campaign:

  • Use location-based keywords
  • Geotarget a radius
  • Do both for squared effect.

Doing this will help you skim out a lot of people that were not a good target or customer for your business in the first place.

5. Add Extensions to your Ads

Adding extensions to your Google Ad Campaigns is one of the best ways to get more clicks on your ads. Fundamentally because they take up more real estate on the search results. There are many ways you can utilize the extensions — you can add phone numbers, specific pages, address, get directions etc. According to Google, adding Extensions helps increase CTR by roughly 15%.

6. Implement UTM Tracking

Tracking campaigns is essential to know what campaigns are generating results and which ones aren’t. Use Google’s builder tool if you don’t know how to code — you can create a UTM code for a page in 30 seconds using this tool.

You can easily track the performance of any of your Campaigns using this tool and view visitor information in more detail than ever.

7. Start running ads on your competitor’s keywords

One of the simplest yet most effective tool for getting more results. Use a keyword tracking tool to see what keywords your competitors are ranking for and run your ads on them to drive eyeballs towards your ad copy. If someone is searching for a specific keyword, chances that they are a pretty hot lead and may like what you have to offer.
