Lego Build 69 — Chippewa Fighter

As stated before, BattleTech has many other units beyond the iconic BattleMechs that populate the battlefields of this far-future setting. Among my favorite ones are the Aerospace fighters, airplanes that can fly in both space and atmosphere and became the prime weapon for air supremacy and ground attack. The Chippewa is one of the most iconic of such units.

This massive fighter was originally developed for the Terran Hegemony, but as the empire collapsed, the factories producing it were taken by the Lyran Commonwealth. This made the Chippewa the prime heavy fighter for that realm.

Most of the focus of this design was aimed at the weaponry, with four-barreled large lasers and twin long-range missile launchers guaranteeing relentless long-range firepower. However, this came at the expense of speed and armor. Thus, the Chippewa can be devastating at a distance or in ground support. However, it suffers in dogfights.

The fighter is built around a flying wing design with a large twin tail. The weapons are burrowed in the wide fuselage, or slung underneath it, with the cockpit placed at the front. It is a really elegant design and I always found it quite striking, almost like a futuristic B-2 bomber.

The build itself is quite an old one. I never posted it before because others took precedence in the meanwhile. Still, I like it, although I would make the instructions differently it was a more recent take. The model itself is quite easy to build due to the simplicity of the fighter’s design and takes 48 parts plus the base. It comes in Lyran colors, but you can build it in any color you want.

Let me know your thoughts, and take care.
