How To Win The Day In 10 Mins Or Less
I’m a huge advocate of using technology to improve your life. I personally have a circulation of mobile apps that I rely on to improve the quality of my day and interactions with people. One of my favorite discoveries is this app called Headspace.
Headspace helps you live mindfully by teaching you how to calm your mind through guided meditation. I installed it once but never made it past the first day of my free subscription. I was quite happy with the meditation habits I already had…until it recently stopped working. I felt like I was in a mental rut these last two months so I decided to give Headspace another go.
I’m almost finished with the trial program and I feel amazing. They have completely changed the way I look at meditating without taking up too much of my day. In fact, they only ask for ten minutes of it for their mindfulness exercises. All of which can be done essentially anywhere. Other than the standard programs, they also have exercises for specific situations like feeling burnt out, taking a run, or traveling to work.
Here are the reasons why I love Headspace:
1) It’s not overwhelming. Anyone can do it.
Some meditation programs can be a little complicated. Headspace ensures that each exercise is easy to accomplish. Just find a quiet place to sit, pop in your earphones, and you’re ready to go. The amazing user experience and soft interface helps a lot too. Whether you’re a beginner or the next incarnation of Buddha, the exercises here will do you a lot of good.
2) You can accomplish it in 10 minutes.
This is important to me. I only have so much time in the morning before I leave for work. I used to spend time writing on my journal or sitting in silence. But I can see how Headspace can replace these things without disrupting my schedule entirely. For every session, you have an option to run it for 3, 5, or 10 minutes. They even have programs good for 1 minute if you purchase the subscription. If you don’t have even a single minute just to sit down and reflect, you’re doing something wrong.
3) The genius is in its simplicity.
What impressed me the most was how simple the activities were. Their goal is really not to teach you anything new. Their goal is to make you realize that the mindfulness you seek is already inside of you. All you need to do is let it surface. I can tell you that I’ve gained more clarity and peace of mind in the week that I have been using Headspace compared to the months I’ve been trying to do meditation myself. I badly needed help and this app just changed everything for me
There are thousands of studies that have concluded that meditation can positively impact mental and physical health. This improvement in your mindfulness trickles down to everything that you do. I was able to get out of the mental rut I’ve been stuck in for months in just a week of using Headspace. I also feel that it positively affects my focus, my work, and my interactions with people.
