Inspired by Javier Escribano’s Product idea 30 day challenge.

(1) A talent pool.

It costs thousands of dollars and a few months of time to find a new employee, interview him/her and get to know his/her skills.

Why don’t we use the technology to change the focus from just hiring to finding and retaining the talent we need?

We could have a talent pool of people who fit with our culture and have skills we need.

In fact, it does not matter that much if they are actually employed or not. They could work with us as independent consultants.

If they have relevant skills and bring value, why would a decision to hire them be that important?

The technology plays a critical role here, because it allows us to keep in touch with a large number of people who could have worked for us.

It could be an internal app we use inside the company, or a cloud-based platform that many companies are using.

We could share our talent pool with business partners (and vice versa) so that we have a better access to talent.

I believe this concept goes along with the ideas of open culture, flexible work arrangements, and changing workplace.

Comments and follow-up ideas are welcome.
