There exists numerous opportunities for the benefit of students. Sadly, most students don’t know about them. Therefore, I gathered some very good programs and scholarships, specifically for EMEA(Europe, the Middle East and Africa)-based students.

For EMEA Students:

  • Google BOLD Immersion Program The Building Opportunities for Leadership and Development (BOLD) Immersion program offers all-expenses-paid travel to one of Google’s headquarters for up to one week in August. Current university students in EMEA who belong to historically underrepresented groups in the technology can apply.
  • Google Inside Look Program: The Inside Look program is open to computer science EMEA students who graduate after August 2021. Successful recipients will participate in an immersive two-day program. The 2020 program will be virtual.
  • Google Tech Mentoring program : The program is open to Computer Science students in Poland. It offers individual mentoring sessions for students. Women and students from groups historically underrepresented are encouraged to apply.
  • IBM Great Minds Internship: The Great Minds internships are 3 to 6-month internships that take place in IBM Research Labs. It is open for EMEA based Masters students in the following fields: Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Life Sciences, Physics, Software Engineering or Service Science. Winners will receive a travel allowance and a compensation.
  • Round Trip Africa Fellowship: a virtual startup accelerator for Africans based in Africa. Students are eligible.

For EMEA Women Students:

  • Google Women Techmakers Scholars Program — Computer Science & Gaming: The WTM program offers EMEA recipients an equivalent of 7,000 EUR scholarship and a chance to attend the annual Google Student Retreat in the summer. Bachelors, masters and PhD students studying full-time a computer science or a closely related program or a game engineering or a closely related program at a university in EMEA are eligible to apply.
  • Google Women Techmakers Scholars Program — Irish University: The WTM program offers recipients an equivalent of 5,000 EUR scholarship and a chance to attend the annual Google Student Retreat in the summer. Students must be undergraduates in their first or second year in Ireland studying computer science or a closely related field.

For Students:

  • Palantir Global Impact Scholarship: To apply, you need to be full-time undergraduate or masters student studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, outside of North America. The recipients will get $5,000 for their education.
  • TTIC Visiting Student/Intern Program: This program is a research program where successful applicants work on research projects in collaboration with TTIC faculty. There are no requirements to apply. The program is open to international students, but they need to prove their English proficiency. Usually, interns receive some funding.
  • The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship is open for undergraduates from several countries like France, Germany, Tunisia, United Kingdom and Ukraine. The program consists of a 12-week research internship at a Canadian university. The program is funded and open to several disciplines. Globalink interns have to chance to return to Canada for their graduate studies (Masters or PhD) thanks to the Globalink Graduate Fellowship.
  • MLH fellowship: is a 12 week remote internship open to all English-speaking students. The program offers need-based stipends up to $5,000 USD to accepted Fellows who require the money in order to participate.

If you are interested in participating in an Exchange program, check this video for advice on where to find such opportunities. For instance, Erasmus+ provides tons of abroad opportunities. There is also Soliya’s Connect Program which is a virtual exchange program.

Already a founder of a start-up?, check out Emerging Valley, an international summit for African start-ups.

Opportunities can have a huge impact on your life and future. Take a look at this interesting and helpful blog, that interviews students who received scholarships.

Final Notes :

  • I will add new opportunities to this post as I come to know them. So, you may want to check again in the future.
  • For opportunities to attend the famous GHC (Grace Hopper Celebration), check this article. Some of the opportunities listed are open for international students.
  • If you are an undergraduate student in North America, give this article a read. If you also identify as part of an underrepresented group in tech, you should read this article too.
