The meaning of self-awareness is to know your inner self more clearly, to know what are the goals of your life, and what you want from your life.

The digital world has become gigantic now. There are so many contents floating here that affect our minds consciously or unconsciously. It’s getting harder and harder to find emotional stability these days. We can not control the digital world but we can control how we deal with these external influences that come in front of our eyes continuously.

The biggest importance of self-awareness is to control our mindset in a better way and turn it into something positive despite negative external factors.

Examples of Self-awareness :

Being able to do some productive work in an unproductive situation

Imagine you are stuck in a huge traffic jam after long office hours. You feel angry and agitated, right? You know that being stuck in traffic is not something you enjoy but you have the opportunity to change the way you react to it.

You can start listening to your favorite song from your playlist or you can read any informative post on social media that you saved earlier. With the help of self-awareness, you can convert this unproductive time into a productive or joyful time.

Realizing a bad habit that can ruin your life in the long term

On your weekend you spend your time binge-watching Netflix series instead of spending time with your family. It can be a lot of fun and great a way to pass the time. But you have to balance between binge-watching and quality family time. Some people use it as an escape from real-life problems.

If you are self-aware you can choose between short-term and long-term happiness. A self-aware person knows the value of quality family time.

Learn to say ‘NO’ or recognize the ‘Sign Out’ warning

You can’t satisfy all the people around you at a time. Sometimes your opinion may be different from your close ones. In your life, some situations may arise from which you have to ‘Sign Out’ yourself for your mental well-being.

In your office, some of your colleagues may spread frustration and negativity among others. Maybe you have some jealous relatives who always try to put you down.

A self-aware person can recognize these types of people. Remember you have to cut down some people from your life if it’s required for your mental happiness. If you feel that you are taken for granted in a relationship then you have to say ‘NO’ to that relationship.

Follow some genuine Influencers on social media

Many influencers are making false impressions of their personal lives on social media. Some of them sell online courses in the name of ‘financial freedom’. They are diverting people in the wrong direction. So, try to follow those influencers or creators who genuinely help others to grow personally or professionally.

— Starting a daily exercise

— Reducing sugar intake

— Following a healthy diet

— Staying hydrated

— Maintaining screen time before bed

— Expressing gratitude

— Keeping some ‘Me time’. All these actions you can take if you are a self-aware person.

How to apply self-awareness in your daily life

a) Start a Journal

Start to write 30 minutes every day about the things that have happened in the entire day. It helps you to know yourself in a deeper way than ever before. You can journal about your career goal, happiness, or anything. Just writing the things that are going on in your life will make you feel more connected to the things you do unconsciously.

b) Take your time to ask “WHY?”

From your busy schedule take your time and ask yourself the simple question Why?

Why do we do these things?

Why am I unhappy?

Why do I want to be alone?

When you start to search for the answers to these questions your level of self-awareness will be uplifted because it forces you to think about the reasons you do things.

c) Try to analyze other people’s opinions

Everyone has a different perspective on a topic. Your point of view may not align with others. We all have different circumstances in life. Every person’s perceptions are made from their prior experiences so their ability to read the same situation will be dissimilar. When you start to analyze other people’s opinions on any current issue or social news, your self-awareness will grow in many aspects.

Conclusion

Nowadays we all are busy. We don’t have time to sit for a minute and ask ourselves ‘How am I?’ When you start to boost your self-awareness you will be closer to the path called ‘Self-Help’.

“The spirit of Self-help is the root of all genuine growth in the individual”. — — — — Samuel Smiles.
