5+ Marketing Ideas to Use Custom Shirts for Facebook Spaces:
Some of my past Facebook Spaces fashion statements have rocked t-shirts sporting my favorite baseball team (Go Indians!), a shout out thanking an amazing community group after winning an Oculus Connect 5 ticket, a countdown to a VR Conference, national holidays (like National Video Game Day), a concert tee (when I’m in a Zeppelin-kinda mood) and so much more.
Plan ahead!
Change up your personal branding by updating your Facebook Spaces shirt.
- Conferences: Create anticipation with a countdown and while the conference is happening. Grab the conference logo and start designing!
- National Holidays: Every day there’s a “let’s celebrate something” holiday.
On National Video Game Day, I went live to talk about the history and evolution of gaming. I added some flair with this Video Game customized image, resized it in Spaces , and added it to my Facebook Spaces shirt!
- Logos: Whether it be your favorite brand, your personal brand or a brand/company you are talking about.
- Product Display: Launching a new product, add it to shirt. Talk about and share it on Facebook with your tribe of followers so they can wear it too. Take a step further and create a contest out of your image and have your community remix it, wear it and then share it!
Social VR Tip: Create a content calendar before the month starts and choose what you want to celebrate, then personalize a shirt. (Wait till you see my Fiesta flair come Cinqo de Mayo!)
- A Friend’s Birthday: Share a #SO to a friend by taking a picture of them and adding it to your shirt. It makes for a fun Facebook birthday post. I created a shirt for a friend that was out of town undergoing Radiation Therapy for her Breast Cancer treatment. She wasn’t on Facebook Spaces…yet. So I called her via Facebook Messenger in Spaces, wished her a social VR happy birthday, and shared with her my Tara shirt!
- Play Ball! Sporting events or represent your favorite team! Give the recap of your team while sporting their logo or tagline!
Interviews/Weekly Shows: Two of the AR VR Women co-founders Siciliana Trevino and Iva Leon invited me to their weekly Facebook Spaces talk show called, Feature Friday, to talk tips on the VR Conference by Oculus where we talked about Oculus Connect 5 tips for newcomers and things we were looking forward to.
Create!
You don’t have to be a graphic designer to design images. You can do it in Canva Team using the “Social Media” 800px x 800px template size.
Social VR Tip: You can also use apps on your smartphone📱 if you’re on the go. Some of my favorite design apps are Over and InShot. They are easy-to-use and have fun illustrations and filters!
Not sure how to do all that? My favorite author Lisa Buyer, has a book Social PR Secrets. You can get the entire scoop there…and recently Buyer just published her 4th Edition!
Social VR Gifts — Sharing is Caring!
Make shirts for your social VR friends. There are a few ways to share your images for shirts:
- While together in Facebook Spaces. All you have to do is hand over the image when you are together, make sure it has been shared to Facebook or else they won’t be able to “add to shirt”. Here’s one I did with Megan Love on her first day of her Social VR Weightloss Journey.
- Share a customized image on their Facebook Feed or share it with a Facebook Group. See below one I shared with one of my Social VR Friends, Iva Leon!
Social VR Tip: When you share on your Facebook newsfeed —they can “Save” it. When they jump into Facebook Spaces, all they’ll have to do is go to their dock and tap “Media” and search under “Saved”. See example below:
- Email or Text — make sure they share it on their Facebook page so they are able to “add to shirt” while in Spaces.
- Drop it like it’s social VR hot! Drop it off as a gift when they’re away from their VR “home” with a “Kit” a feature in your dock under “Tools.”
Rules for Leaving a Gift for a Social VR Friend
- You have to be friends with them on Facebook
- They have to enable their settings to allow friends to visit when they are not there.
Social VR Tip: When you drop off a gift, do it with the “Kit” tool. When you use the Kit tool it’s much more organized, and you can add more than one image along with a written message from your Marker. Here’s an example I did with Cathy Hackl after during our Oculus Connect Recap.
3. Kits — (More about this later) Create Kits with images and a message so they know who it’s from, and gift them across your social VR circle. Recently, I attended Oculus Connect 5 and gifted a “Kit” of images to use for shirts to some of the attendees with whom I became VR friends. See below video of me sharing my “Kit” with Cathy Hackl.♥️
