In an effort to support school communities in Ghana to build Digital Literacy skills, the Nubian Foundation is partnering with the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ghana Education Service (GES), and UNICEF Ghana to pilot a game-based approach to training students about digital literacy.
The Digital Literacy Training is designed for adolescents 8 — 18 and will be piloted in select Upper Primary, Junior & Senior Secondary schools in the Greater Accra Region. The Digital Literacy Training module will be deployed on the Life Skills App to reach students in the Greater Accra, region in Ghana; this is done through support from UNICEF Ghana.
The Digital Literacy Module consists of a 12-part scenario-based lesson on the Life Skills App; each lesson is an interactive game that enables students to pick up the skills they need to be safe online. Additionally, students will have access to a conversational chatbot and an incident reporting tool.
In addition, the Digital Literacy initiative will also train school administrators — Head Teachers, IT teachers & Guidance Counsellors — from schools in the Greater Accra Region on Digital Literacy and how to facilitate the training on the Life Skills App in the various schools.
Following the training of students and school administrators will be digital marketing and communications targeted at parents to educate them about Digital Literacy and protocols they could follow to ensure their children or wards are protected online.
Deployment is scheduled to start in September 2023 academic term with initial baseline data collection with participating schools after which a training session for School Administrators will be held and then the pilot will commence.
After the deployment, the Digital Literacy module will be published under the Creative Commons License and made available to students in Ghana. For School Administrators interested in training their students on Digital Literacy, you can schedule a meeting to discuss these prospects
