A couple of days ago I announced that I had re-written mvse.io to be a web app that anyone could use to store and share their favourite quotes and passages from the things they read online.

At the time I mentioned that the app did not allow for the automatic pulling of highlights from other services such as Genius or Instapaper. I’m excited to say that I have now added support for Genius highlights. Here’s how to enable it:

  1. Log in and click on “settings”, which will bring you to the settings for your profile.
  2. Under “connected accounts” you will see a list of services that you can connect your mvse.io account to (at the moment only Genius is enabled). Click the link labelled “connect” beside Genius, and you’ll be transported to your Genius account where you will be asked to authorize the Mvse app.
  3. Approve Mvse and you’ll be directed back to your settings on mvse.io. Mvse will begin importing all of your existing highlights from Genius to mvse.io and will send all future highlights from that service to mvse.io automatically.

And that’s it! Once your account is connected, any highlighting you do on the web with Genius will be synced with your notes / highlights on mvse.io.

This is part of an ongoing series in which I am documenting the development of a project I have called “mvse” (read: muse — as in a source of inspiration). To learn more about mvse.io, head on over to this page.
