Do you keep thinking about what happened yesterday, the other week or last year?

You can spend countless hours analyzing your past but what do you gain from those thoughts?

Not much, if you stay there for too long.

Of course, you could learn from your past but the truth is you can never change anything about it.

Spending a lot of time on your past events is not a smart move. Life goes on and if you spend too much time in your past, you end up missing on what’s happening in the present moment.

Your past is gone and it’s time to move on. When you get over your past, you walk into the present, the most important time of your life.

It’s true that you should never forget your roots but it doesn’t mean you should let your past anchor you down.

But how do you get over your past?

You see, your past is just a life lesson. Whether it was a positive or negative experience, there’s something you can learn from it.

The important thing here is your ability to get that lesson and apply it right away.

Your past is a teacher that will follow you no matter where you go. You listen to it, learn the lesson, and you move forward as fast as you can.

Remember that time your partner broke up with you? How about the other time when your family let you down?

What were the lessons there? By seeing your past as a teacher, you’ll become a student who seeks the important life lessons to shape the future.

Another great way to get over your past is by focusing on your purpose in life. When you have an important mission to accomplish, you won’t have time to stay in your past.

It’s so much easier to fall into the trap of staying in your past when you don’t know why you are here in this world.

Having a powerful purpose will allow you to not lose the big picture when those past memories cross your mind.

You can let your past rule you or you can let your past teach you. The choice is yours and you have the power to go either way.

No matter how hard something has been in the past, it doesn’t mean it will be as hard forever.

Even loss of someone close to you like a friend or family member can teach you about the importance of gratitude and joy for what you already have.

So to get over your past you can be more present. Why? Because in the future, what you’ll call the past is the moment you have now.

You can do your best to make sure your present moments are pleasant and for those that are not you will learn the lesson. When you think this way, you win anyway.

Also, sooner or later you’ll end up forgetting your past anyway. It’s just a matter of time. Our memories fade and we form new ones. It’s your job to not let those memories limit you.

I hope this has helped you to see your past from a different angle and I’d love to hear from experience when it comes to getting over your past.
