While there is considerable buzz and talk on a future with smart homes and its exciting devices. A trend that has relatively gone missed by most is the ongoing evolution of our cities into an interconnected organism with infrastructure that talks to each other and respond in ways that were never thought possible before. These are the Smart Cities.

To get into detail, Smart Cities are different from other cities in the way that these urban areas make use of different electronic devices with Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and collect data. This data is then constantly analyzed to effectively manage the city’s traffic and transportation systems, power plants, utilities, water supply networks, crime detection, information systems, hospitals, and other such community services. In China, particularly, most cities are moving towards upgrading themselves to Smart Cities. This is being made possible by the Stacks Network.

Stacks Network, a company providing data transmission and storage-related services, was founded in 2014 in Shanghai and since then has gone on to build tremendous infrastructure for various enterprises. Currently, the company has its coverage in over 26 provinces across China. This new-age company has worked on and continues to work on the development of Smart Cities by providing the most crucial part in these projects: the infrastructure and platforms required for the IoT devices to communicate through. Right now, keeping with their vision of the future of cities, they have launched their latest project, Stackscity.

Stackscity is a whole new venture into bringing free Wifi to public spaces of cities by creating a whole new revolutionary Wifi ecosystem that strikes a fine balance with the needs of internet users, router owners, and advertisers. What it basically does is first, it allows advertisers to target their audiences in hyper-specific locations by enabling them to select individual routers to display their ads through. This incentivizes the advertisers, especially brick and motor businesses, to advertise through their platform. Now, a Stacks Router Owner, when their router is used to display any ads, receives direct payment from the advertisers while Stackscity keeps a commission. This makes these Stack Routers a revenue stream that attracts human-centric businesses and individuals. Thus, incentivizing public space owners (mall owners, library owners, etc.) and human-centric business owners (like cafes, restaurants, etc.) to invest in Stacks Routers and set up free Wifi access in their premises. The users of this free Wifi receives access to the internet through these high-speed Wifi networks, thus creating a kind of shared economy that increases Wifi access in public areas. This new ecosystem looks ideal for Smart Cities to implement.

It is important to note that one of the most important restricting factors in the development of infrastructure is the finances and funding for projects. By creating this whole new Wifi ecosystem that is designed on the wonderful ideas of a shared economy, Stackscity would greatly accelerate the incorporation and availability of free Wifi in public spaces in the cities. Thus, in general, the project accelerates the conversion of cities into Smart Cities by drastically improving the connectivity within the place and bringing new infrastructure into public spaces. This connectivity would be a huge boon to the population of these cities bringing high speed and free internet connectivity to everyone. With this Stackscity project underway at full swing, the Stacks Network is truly connecting the Smart into Smart Cities.

What are your thoughts on the Stacks Network’s new Wifi ecosystem? Have you ever wondered what other features would the Cities of the future contain? Let us know your ideas and thoughts in the comments below.
