PNS Now Online! Customize Your Web3 Name Card Now
Arrived as promised, PNS is now officially launched. Many friends in our community are eager to find out how to register and use their PNS domain. We’ll answer all these questions here.
PNS is a decentralized domain name system for Polkadot. You can use a .dot domain name to support smart contracts, domain names, wallets, NFTs, etc. With the application of PNS, you can create your very own digital identity for Web 3.0 with a domain name that you have full permission to manage and use.
Introduction of PNS’s functions
Registration
10-digit domain names will open for registration in this launch. Lower digits domains will come in few weeks.
Subdomains
Enrich your DID with subdomains! Each PNS name has 20 initial subdomains. Use them to store different addresses, NFTs, or anything you want.
Organizations and DAOs can use subdomains as member certificates, reduce the trust cost and enhance team cohesion.
Notice that the operation of generating and modifying subdomains requires a very small amount of gas fee.
Web3Profile
In Web2 you may need different accounts from different platforms to explain “who I am” or “what I did”, but the Web3Profile can perfectly match your needs for self-introduction.
Web3Profile generates a presentation window for your domain name. It shows your info on PNS .dot, your on-chain NFT, and can be used for social platforms. Web3Profile allows you to build your Web3 name card in a way you want.
Reverse parsing
Reverse parsing allow users show their PNS domain name, instead of lengthy address, in the Dapps of PNS’s cooperative teams. Compared to other lengthy addresses, a readable and memorable name will make you stand out. If you have registered multiple PNS domain names, you can choose one of them to reverse your long address.
Wallet address
Currently, PNS supports wallet address binding of Ethereum address, and filling of Polkadot address, Kusama address, and BTC address. The validation and binding will come in subsequent updates.
Textual information
PNS support adding and editing of textual information including Email, Notice, Twitter, GitHub, and other URL links.
Registration and use tutorial of PNS
Registration
Before registration, please prepare a MetaMask wallet with the Moonbeam Network and sufficient GLMR token.
- Open https://www.pns.link/ and search the name you want.
Valid characters: English letters (not case-sensitive), numbers and ligatures (hyphen, -), ligatures cannot be used consecutively and cannot be used at the beginning or end.
eg. valid names: hello-world.dot | helloworld.dot
invalid names: hello — world.dot | -helloworld.dot | helloworld-.dot
2. Chick the domain with “Available” after search
3. Click “Register” and pay attention to the MetaMask Wallet plugin popup. Click “confirm” to process.
4. After successful registration, you can see the sign of “owned” after the domain.
Manage your PNS domain
- Manage subdomains
Click “Add New Subdomain”, type in the name of subdomain, pay for gas fee and a new subdomain is created! You can edit the info of this subdomain.
2. Reverse parsing
Click “My Names” in the heading to set your Reverse Record. If you have more than one domain, you can choose either one you like.
3. Manage your domain
You can transfer your domain to another Ethereum address and renew the expiration date in the management page. Notice that once you transfer it to another address, you’re no longer the owner of this domain.
