People put a lot of effort and emotion into their stories on Medium. I have seen many stories that you can tell were written with a lot of thought. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you wrote a story, and you could make something happen? When you shared it, someone benefitted by more than just the knowledge you dropped into the story?

That’s possible now.

The folks at PublicGood came up with a solution. If you don’t know who they are, you should. They were some of the top tech people behind the Obama for America tech team. It works like this.

Suppose you were alarmed by the water situation in Flint, Michigan. You decided to write a Medium article about it. PublicGood has created a “card” that auto drops into the article you are writing through a link. You can hit the + sign that pops up when you start a new paragraph. Then click the <> sign and embed the link from Public Good. It will then show up in the Medium article as a card.

Here is one for Flint.

This allows people with the same concerns as you donate a little money to the cause. You can make a difference with your writing, but you can make more of a difference by actually linking to a PublicGood site that will put money toward the cause you want to promote.

On Wordpress blogs, they have a Take Action button that you can embed. It’s a free plug-in that is ready when you need it.

Public Good has thousands of organizations that they work with. If you are into animal welfare you just use the + sign then <> sign and embed the code. It’s simple.

or veterans

Or healthy food

or any charitable cause you can think of under the sun. They have a link for it. If you don’t want to pick one charity, Public Good divides up the money evenly for all the charities registered.

Give it a try the next time you blog. Not only will your words make a difference, but you can get people to take action and make a difference too.
