Overthinking: friend or foe?

Have you ever heard someone say “Think twice before you say anything”?

Well! How many times and how much do you have to think to call it “overthinking”? Frankly, I don’t know.

But let’s talk about how the so called “overthinking” affects us and our ideas.

You may have travelled on the road more taken, the past. You think about the events, the conversations, the performance or the embarrassment, that may have made you happy or sad or confused or sometimes something that you cannot define!

You might think that “I could have said this instead” or “I could have done that to save myself” or “What would he have said if I did it?”. All sorts of ideas rushing here and there in your mind, analyzing situations and predicting solutions. Well! Isn’t that what we call “Experience”?

So the question is, is it really that bad? Maybe.

It comes down to perspective. You may see it as an opportunity to learn or a rare (wink-wink!) occasion to stress about. I won’t say what is easier or more difficult, no one can. So even the perspective boils down to “You”.

It has happened, what do you wanna do about it; accept it and finally own it or think about it until you drain yourself out?

So, next time when someone tells you “Don’t overthink!”, ask yourself: Is overthinking that bad?
