With the rise of the smartphone, paper business cards have become less relevant as consumers migrate to creating, saving and sharing information digitally. This transition is almost complete and now it seems quite strange when you’re in a professional setting and someone hands you a paper business card. What exactly are you supposed to do with it? If you’re like most people, you just hand it back and instead request a LinkedIn name or LinkedIn mobile app QR Code. For many of us, LinkedIn is the business card.

Unfortunately, LinkedIn isn’t perfect. What if you wish to share your personal or professional mobile number and email address? Adding very private information to your LinkedIn profile or to contact management platforms that expose your contact information to the general public via web links is probably not a good idea as web crawlers can easily harness that information for nefarious purposes. Also, what if you wish to tailor your contact information based on the person you’re sending it to? Do you create multiple cards for all the scenarios you envision? Surely not.

With Pingtumi Contacts for iMessage, we hope to solve the contact conundrum you may be experiencing. Our approach to digital contact cards is simple. Create a personal and professional profile then modify those profiles in real time before sending. If you create a professional profile and add your LinkedIn url, we’ll even generate the LinkedIn QR Code for you.

You can send your card as an iMessage App which requires that the recipient install Pingtumi or you can send it as a vCard which does not require Pingtumi. It’s a highly flexible solution that’s easy to use and gives you the greatest degrees of freedom.

To get started, follow the steps below. We hope you enjoy using our iMessage extension. For additional messaging capabilities, check out the Pingtumi app and learn how you can improve communications with large groups via scheduled and real time push notifications.

  1. Download Pingtumi from the App Store, locate and launch iMessage on your iPhone then tap + to the left of the text field.

2. Scroll up or tap the More button. Tap and hold Pingtumi then slide up and off the screen.

3. Position Pingtumi above the More button. Tap to launch Pingtumi then select “Contacts”.

4. Add your professional contact information then flip the card over and add your personal contact information. You can also add your address, notes and social media links. In addition, you can add a background image or color. Your information will be automatically saved.

5. If you’re creating a professional card, you can add your LinkedIn profile url and a LinkedIn button will appear above your card. Tap the LinkedIn button to view your LinkedIn QR Code which can be scanned by anyone who wishes to view your LinkedIn profile.

6. When you’re finished, select which elements of your contact card you’d like to hide (optional) then tap “Send”. You can send your contact card as a vCard or as a Pingtumi iMessage. If you select vCard, the recipient does not need to have Pingtumi installed.

7. Recipients who receive your contact card within iMessage can add it to their native Contacts App by tapping “Add to Contacts”.

We think you’re really going to enjoy creating and sharing your contact information via iMessage. Please feel free to drop us a note at contact@pingtumi.com and let us know how we can make your messaging experience even better.
