Our future is looking like we are on the way to the vision of the animated film: WALL-E. A glimpse into the future we are building…

Our Technology

I was thinking about all the new technology we are creating in recent years, it's truly a new era. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Self Driving Vehicles, Robotics, Supercomputers, Self Landing Space Rockets, you name it, we are trying to do everything.

WALL-E and How It Relates to Our World

We call home — Earth. In WALL-E they call it history, and in the film, we meet a robot “WALL-E” that is stacking garbage on a decrepit representation of our world. Garbage stacked up everywhere — up to the size of sky-scrapers.

The story goes on, and eventually, we see scenes of gigantic spaceships in which the human population used to flee the world to live their lives in space.

But their lives are all pretty much automated: the humans lay on floating space chairs, food delivered by robots, defecate and urinate themselves in the chairs, and pretty much everything else; from what I can remember everything was done on those chairs.

With how our current technology is progressing — we could end up in this same scenario. Hopefully, Mars works out, Elon Musk.

This was in 2008 when the movie came out, so I was pretty young, but I can remember all of this because I thought that would be such a cool thing to do — sit on a chair all day watching Netflix and eating whatever I wanted 24x7. Now that I think of it, we don’t want everything to be automated.

Sure, automating farming and water gathering in every city, town, and village would be a great step for automation.

But there comes a point when our lives are so automated that we don’t even have the essence of the human being anymore. It’s a scary thought.

Artificial Intelligence

AI for example is taking over a lot of jobs and will continue to do so. I just started writing on Medium a few weeks ago, and I am hoping that AI never takes away the creativity of natural writing. Even AI art bots are learning from natural artists and taking away the essence of that creativity. AI shouldn’t be allowed to take the essence of the human being.

In the manufacturing world, robots and AI are being used to automate production, with a lot of labourers losing jobs.

I understand cost is a big deal for these companies and if I were in their shoes I would probably try to automate everything as well. But what about giving these labourers an education into managing the robots, or helping them step up in the world and learn a better skill that the company can benefit from — just some food for thought?

SpaceX and Living in Space

Elon Musk and his team are trying to make Mar’s inhabitable for us. I don’t know if I would go to space because that sounds pretty freaky: no gravity, lack of oxygen, and the speed of the flight; all seems too daunting.

What would the world be like if we had half the population on Mars?

The Martian human could become some different breed of human.

Who knows, they could become more advanced with the genes of Elon Musk and start a planetary war with us.

Just kidding. But we can’t tell what could happen in 200 years.

To be real, theoretically, if half the world’s population were to go on Mars then are carbon footprint we diminish a lot, there would be a lot more resources for everyone, and we could focus on making the universe great again.

It’s an unknown adventure for humankind. Let’s see where it will take, shall we?
