Representativeness is a heuristic that’s used to make decisions about the probability of an event in the face of uncertainty.

Dan Kahneman suggests that one of the sins of representativeness is that we are excessivley willing to predict unlikely events.

For example, Dan suggests that if we saw a person reading the New York Times on the New York subway we are more likely to bet that she has a PhD versus not having a college degree.

We go by what we see even though more non-graduates ride the subway.

In this example, the math simply does not allow us to be right. We stand corrected by volume alone.

Volume is an interesting phenomenon.

What changes a possibility from less likely event to more likely event is volume.

So, if we want to experience possibilities… we need to increase the number of actions we take, the failures we embrace, and the opportunities we pursue.

To possibilities!
