I can read your mind! I am aware as what’s going on inside you. The chaos to come to a conclusion isn’t visible because you are a beginner and confused about the varied fields in quantum. Isn’t it? Did I read you mind correctly? Apologies if I was wrong but one day or the other you will converge into these chaotic thoughts.

Fine jokes apart!! Let me get it straight.

So, what are the fields in quantum?

See, Quantum is not confined to one field alone. Its convergence came from the divergence of three foundational fields like Quantum physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. But that's not it. Based upon these fundamentals different other fields emerged.

Quantum Hardware

Qubits are the building blocks of every quantum computer. There are different types of qubits available, and one can create a quantum computer out of it. But lets restrict our discussion with only the type of qubits.

Different types of qubits are:

Types of qubits

All I wanted to say is every qubit has its own leaps and bounds. Each type of qubits is used by various QC startups and big organization too. Example: Intel is working with Semiconductor Spin qubits. Microsoft is working with Topological qubits and those firms are working to have a breakthrough called quantum computer utilizing these qubits. We will discuss in detail the different types of qubits in depth in the upcoming articles.

Btw, I have a nice virtual representation of above qubits in this article.

Quantum Software

Ok, assume you are a CSE student in your undergrad and not interested to learn about quantum hardware, here is the solution for you. I can say one has a lot of opportunities in quantum software as mostly people are working professionals in IT or a Data Scientist who are playing with codes day to day.

Below are the fields one can gather interest and comfortably work:

Quantum software fields

Again, this article is an introduction only. I don’t want to burn you out just by reading this article alone.

Sticking with the foundations of quantum

Suppose you are not an engineering undergrad and not interested in both hardware and software! and is crazy about math and physics, I would strongly suggest you stick with the basics because there are ample opportunities for you guys too. Let’s see what you have in the basket.

Foundational fields

I want to say that all the fields are divergent in nature, anyone literally anyone with deep interest can study any fields. Technically, all the fields are interlinked with each other. One shouldn’t neglect the basics at any cost.

P.S. My next article will be explaining all the concepts gradually in separate articles with in-depth recent breakthroughs.

Stay tuned!
