Let’s go into the 10th Day of this 30-Day Personal Growth Challenge. Today’s positive habit to cultivate in our life is — “Try Something New”.

Well, I won’t say what you need to try anew today, but shall we dig into the ‘Why’ of it and how is it linked with Personal Growth?

Let’s get started!

Easier to grab for some but some people may wonder what do you really mean by ‘trying something new’?

It means doing something that you have never done before or that you are not familiar with.

For example, learning a new skill, taking up a new hobby, visiting a new place, meeting new people (or even changing your hairstyle! :) )

Of course, the possibilities are endless and equally the benefits are immense too.

So, what happens to you and your body when you experiment something new?

1. It boosts your creativity.

You expose yourself to new challenges and new perspectives.

This then stimulates your brain and enhances some of your cognitive abilities such as memory, problem-solving skill, etc.

Most importantly, you learn to adapt to different situations and come up with improvised solutions to face the challenges in the process of learning.

All these skills are essential for creativity which is basically the ability to generate innovative and useful ideas. (You got that? :))

2. It improves your mood.

When you do something new or for the first time, you activate the reward system in your brain.

Basically, this triggers a release of hormone, what we call as ‘dopamine’ which is a sort of a neurotransmitter that makes you feel good.

And this dopamine is also associated with motivation and pleasure so it helps you to enjoy the process and the outcome of your new activity.

You experience a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction as you achieve something that you have never done before.

And these rewarding feelings boost your happiness and well-being and reduces stress and anxiety. (Get it? :) )

3. It expands your horizons.

You expose yourself to new cultures, new people, new knowledge and new experiences when you dive into experimenting something new in your life.

You gain new insights, discover new interests, which then adds more meaning and joy to your life.

Most importantly, you get to challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone which makes you more open-minded and adventurous, more adaptable and resilient in the face of change.

Now that you know why you should try something new and how it is good for you, you might be wondering how to do it?

Here are some quick tips to help you get started:

  • Start small: Start with simple and easy things. For example, reading a new genre of books, listening to a new genre of music, cooking a new recipe or taking a different route to work. The important thing is to do something that you have never done before or that you are not used to doing!
  • Be curious: Ask questions, explore and then experiment. Use the internet or books to learn about new topics or trends. Or ask your friends or colleagues for recommendations or suggestions on what you can do anew.
  • Be open-minded: Don’t let your fears or prejudices stop you from experimenting with something that you might enjoy or benefit from. Instead, embrace the unknown and the unexpected. See them as opportunities to learn and grow. You might be surprised by what you discover about yourself and the world!
  • Have fun: Don’t forget to have fun in the process! Enjoy the outcome and celebrate your achievements. Remember that trying something new is a choice. It is a chance to make your life more exciting and fulfilling. Don’t make it a chore!

So, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Explore the world of possibilities.

You never know what you might find or who you might become!

Remember, life is an adventure and you are the hero.

So, go ahead and try something new today anytime, anywhere and with anyone. Make your life a masterpiece! 😊
