Thoughts on The Lancet’s statement to President Donald Trump’s May 18 letter addressed to the WHO Director — Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus:

1. Mr. Trump’s letter to the WHO, dated May 18th, 2020, states “The World Health Organization consistently ignored reports of the virus spreading in Wuhan in early December 2019, or even earlier, INCLUDING (emphasis added) reports from The Lancet medical journal.” Mr. Trump’s letter never states The Lancet report was published in December 2019. It does point out, however, that among the multiple reports the WHO chose to ignore, The Lancet medical journal was of them. It is appalling, that a serious probe of an institution by its largest financial contributor, is met by splitting hairs on sentence redaction from a prestigious medical publisher. Would joining in the effort to protect and save human lives through addressing the catastrophic underlying flaws at the WHO be too much to ask?

2. The Lancet statement in question, published on Jan 24, 2020, cites in its introduction, “In December 2019, a series of pneumonia cases of unknown cause emerged in Wuhan, Hubei, China with clinical presentations greatly resembling viral pneumonia.” The fact that the article wasn’t published until late January 2020 does not obviate the FACT that the virus, of unknown origin, was already present in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, per The Lancet’s own report. This only corroborates Mr. Trump’s reasonable inquiry as to WHO’s complicity in China’s cover up and as such, his intent to reconsider the United States membership. There is no excuse for the WHO to be so far behind the eight ball.

3. The Lancet is a Medical and Scientific Journal, or so it purports to be. The last paragraph of their statement asserts the allegations made by President Trump regarding the WHO and its Director, are serious and damaging vis-à-vis limiting the spread of the pandemic. Clearly, this statement not only reflects a dangerous political bias towards an international organization, an organization which not only failed the world in its most fundamental task, which is to limit the spread of a pandemic by acting TIMELY and TRUTHFULLY, but it also delegitimizes the professionalism and seriousness of countless published scientific works of so many doctors and scientists, works on which the medical profession relies on for accurate scientific analysis and investigatory research.

It is truly demoralizing, given the worldwide tragedy caused by this pandemic, that many in the medical establishment seem to be more concerned about playing politics than actually saving lives. Although the WHO’s website states their mission is to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable, their actions speak much more loudly — generating miserable outcomes in promoting health, a total and absolute disregard to the safety and wellbeing of the world’s inhabitants and a direct contribution to the irreparable damage to the most vulnerable of the vulnerable. I, as one of the 7.8 billion human beings affected by this virus, watch with disgust how the response to said virus has regrettably become nothing more than a Trojan Horse spewing forth a toxic concoction of globalism, corruption, deceit and lies.
