buying followers is not the social media hack you think it is

If you’ve ever tried to grow a social media account from scratch, you know the process can sometimes take forever. You might have even been tempted to buy a few thousand followers to boost your follower count but, is it worth it? The answer is no. Let me break down why.

People, businesses, and brands all open social media accounts with the aim of connecting with audiences interested in them or the product/service they provide. Typically you would want your followers to be made up of your ideal audience, this would lead to good engagement and increase the likelihood of your posts converting to sales, subscriptions, downloads, etc.

When you buy followers, your audience is now made up of bot accounts that don’t interact with your content because that’s not what they’re programmed to do. On a social network like Instagram, that lack of interaction alone can affect how your post is seen by whatever ‘real’ or genuine audience you might actually have.

The Instagram algorithm is known for showing your content to a ‘select few’ at first to see how they interact with it before showing it to other users. If they show your bot followers the post first and they don’t interact with it, the Instagram algorithm will interpret that content as low quality and will not show it to more people.

In the end, not only have you gained a bunch of inactive followers, but they’ve also killed your reach and the chances that your genuine followers will interact with your posts.

Building a genuine community even if it takes a while will always be the best way to win on social media.
