Generating contours and cliffs with OL Laser

I used OL Laser to generate files containing contour and cliff data. I prefer the way OL Laser handles cliff data, compared to Karttapullautin.

Run OL Laser, then:

  • Open your LiDAR data file (it can take a little while). Use the ‘open laserfile’ button.
  • Let OL Laser to some preparation by pressing the ‘Create GRD/TIN’ button
  • Under ‘O-Map objects’ select ‘Contours’ and then ‘Create objects’. The process is fast, but you won’t see the results until the next step
  • Under ‘Draw’ select the contours.
  • You can save the contours as an OCAD data file
  • Here’s how it looked for me:

  • The process is virtually the same for cliffs. Just select that option under ‘O-Map objects’.

  • You can create new parameter sets with your preferences. Use the ‘Maintenance’ menu item. Then use the ‘New’ button.

Hopeless at orienteering, rubbish at flying radio controlled planes, but enjoys both activities anyway.
