Importing some geo-referenced data into Open Orienteering Mapper can be a great way to start creating a map. The import processes sets up the geo-referenced co-ordinates for the map.

In this example, we’ll be importing data previously exported from Open Street Map.

  • Start Open Orienteering Mapper
  • Use File > Import. Select the Open Street Map file. Select the ‘Georeferenced’ option.

  • I selected the ‘UTM’ coordinate reference system, and then accepted all the defaults. The magnetic declination lookup results was accurate, and I accepted it too.

Hopeless at orienteering, rubbish at flying radio controlled planes, but enjoys both activities anyway.
