Starting a new map with Open Orienteering Mapper

Creating a new map file is simple:

  • Run the Open Orienteering Mapper application
  • Use the ‘Create a new map’ button
  • I selected scale of 1:10000 and the ISOM_10000 Symbol set. The decision about scale is based on my desire to fit the map on a standard A4 page. I’ll be using the Internataional Specification for Orienteering Maps (ISOM) symbol set.

A blank map is produced.

Geo-referencing information will be added when a geo-referenced data set is first used as a template or imported.

This article is part of the Orienteering Mapping with LiDAR, Smartphones and Free Tools series.

Polite and constructive responses are always welcome.

Hopeless at orienteering, rubbish at flying radio controlled planes, but enjoys both activities anyway.
