It’s a known fact that children are always attracted to anything colorful and vibrant. It stimulates their senses and helps in motivating their learning skills. Color is especially helpful in developing the visual sensory skills. Children find it interesting to see the colorful butterflies, the rainbow and all colorful objects! They color, its brightness, the feel of vibrancy coming from it awakens the eyes of children. It is for this reason that a child can remember that ‘my hair is black in color’ or ‘a rose is red in color! The use of color thus, can be helpful even in handwriting practice for kids as this will give rise to interest in the child’s mind to learn.

Colours act as recognizable identities

While teaching your child to practice writing the first letters and numerals color can prove to be a great boon. With the best handwriting practice for kids create interesting worksheets for your child and give him to practice. For example: you can make your child recognize each letter with a different color. Create a worksheet in the Startwrite tool using the grid and the text boxes and make a four-line grid. Now write A, B, C, D and E as — A, B, C, D, E. Dedicate just 5 letters each in 1 grid and create separate worksheets for 5 letters each continuing till Z. Allow your kid full time and space to practice them. Very soon you will realize that your kid starts writing alphabets without any difficulty and remembers them naturally. You can also use colorful objects to help him practice writing. Using a ‘red rose’to write the letters RED will be more effective in teaching him.

Colours help in understanding specifics

If your child has a difficulty in identifying the where to write the letters correctly in lines, you can help him learn by creating a worksheet using the features of the area highlights and guidelines in the handwriting tool. You can now create color coded guidelines and guide your child to write within those. Moreover, by using the area highlights you can emphasize on specific letters. For example, you have a four-line grid and you want to teach your child the letters like a, c, e, o etc. Use a color (a light yellow suppose) to emphasize this middle grid that lies between the second and third line. This way you will be able to work on how to make a child write neatly and of course correctly. The use of color will be self-explanatory for him each time he writes making him remember it.

Color coding helps in identifying gaps

There should always be gaps between letters not only because they are separate letters but also because it will make the handwriting neat. By using colour coded images create a worksheet where you place a colorful object like a ‘ball’ in the gaps between letters. This will help him to understand the need to maintain gaps and that he is supposed to write only within the area ‘where there is no picture of the ball’. This helps the child to retain learning in his memory without much effort. In fact, he gets interested in it.

Color coding in combination with games

Children are always in the playful mood. Hence, taking care of this aspect, make his learning an activity full of color and games. It is very important for them to play games to improve handwriting. For example take some objects like a toy, a fruit or other fun objects. Play a game of making him identify the object and make him write the first letter of the word or the object he identifies with different colors. Prior to it decide what objects you are going to take and create a customized handwriting practice for kids with the letter prominently on one side and then the word on the other side. Just like ‘T’ on one side and then ‘TOY’ on the other side. Thus it can be seen that color is of great help in teaching children the art of good handwriting.
