Know Your Flow And Resistance (Part 1)

Resistance.

Definitions: The refusal to accept or comply with something. Refusal of accept. Opposition to. Unwillingness to accept. Reluctance to accept.

In the electrical circuit, it’s the force counteracts the flow of current.

Basically,

Flow says “Yes!”, but resistance says “No, hold on…”

It can interrupt the natural flow.

This situation happens all the time in our head.

You want to do certain thing. You have a desire toward something. Or, you think you know the right choice to make. Something is calling you toward that direction. You cannot ignore it. You really want to take that action.

This is you being in the flow. It’s your natural current state.

But then, the resistance happens. Here are some examples:

You really want to wear that outfit today but are afraid of what your friends might say about it.

You don’t want to go to a college anymore but don’t want to make your parents disappointed.

You want to ask the girl to go out with you but are scared of her rejection.

You strongly feel you should quit your current job but are worried if you can find a new job.

All the time, we are dealing with these kinds of resistance. We cannot avoid them!

Your resistance can be caused by your worry, fear, unknown outcome, possible reglet… basically the negative thoughts.

Those negative thoughts are often triggered by societal matters such as rules, traditions, and “common sense”.

And, if you are a compassionate and thoughtful person (aka nice person), your resisting thoughts could be caused by the consideration toward others rather than yourself… not wanting to hurt their feelings or reduce the amount of the benefit they may receive according to your new action.

Anyways,

Regardless of whatever the cause of your resistance is, when it is giving you a hard time, it is the important time for you to make decision.

Here is the helpful considerations to make your resistance go away.

What do you want to prioritize right now? What is your main focus? Is this choice aligning with your focus and purpose? What is MOST important to you right now, in this moment?

Then, we have to remember this next. The rules and traditions in this society are not 100% true. Do we really have to wear black to attend a funeral? Is drinking milk everyday really a healthy choice for everybody?

Many of these traditions are too old to fit in our modern life anyways. Or, did they make sense from beginning at all… hmm, maybe it’s time to develop your own common sense.

The possibility is that your negative thoughts are not the true statements. Not the facts at all. You can be very wrong about that belief of “you don’t look good with short hair” or “he drives a beat-up car so he is poor.” Belief is not same as truth. So why does it matter?

Your worry and fear could be just another imagination or idea. Don’t let your assumptions make your decisions!

The conclusion is this.

Right choices make you feel good. That’s the basic way to know. It should be fun, enjoyable, bring you benefits (physically, mentally, and emotionally), and sometimes make you learn.

Choosing to be in your natural flow is like you are on a boat on the peaceful river… Sometimes your smooth boat ride gets interrupted. But, every time when it happens, we have to get it right back on the peaceful state as soon as possible.

We keep repeating this constantly everyday… When we are in our natural flows letting go of our resistances, we are being honest to ourselves and doing what we truly want to do. We know we are happy and enjoying the life.

P.S.

Did somebody say, “Then, should I eat this whole pint of ice cream all by myself? Because I really want it right now.”

Hmm… the answer is that it depends on your goal. Your life goal. Your ideal self and dream life. Because your natural flow should be flowing toward your future goal. So depending on that, you should know your answer!
