How far would you go to protect your family and homeland?

Imagine you’re an officer of the court by day but at night, your job is to function as a scout for attack drones meant to wreak havoc and mayhem on your country and people you know and love.

Judge Yuri Chumak, 48, and father of two daughters, is such a person.

For the last year and a half, he has spent his nights on multiple towering buildings and skyscrapers moonlighting as commander of one of many civilian volunteer defense squads as a drone sniper in the Ukrainian capital.

The roof of a skyscraper gives him a better sight of visibility as well as a vantage point to bring attack drones down with minimal damage to the streets and residential areas down below.

An average rooftop staffed by these civilian volunteers will have WW2/Cold War era machine guns. They depend on tablets and cellphones to track incoming drones and missiles, which are heavily dependent on a stable internet connection.

His favorite most prized choice of weapon is the shoulder mounted Stinger missile, which can blast just about any aircraft out of the sky.

They are extremely rare and are in limited supply.

He credits America for keeping them alive with these armaments but it’s not enough, in my opinion, to “keep them alive”. We should want them to thrive in the dominant position of strength not just mere survival.

Most of his gear of night goggles, body armor, helmets, sleeping bags, boots, portable heaters and medical kits are all donated from private donors, donation drives, crowdfunding, and private citizens of other countries.

Chumak is a bit worried because promised weapons and supplies has slowed to a crawl due to internal squabbles and sabotage of political parties who seem beholden to Vladimir Putin of Russia.

The Republican Party of the United States has pretty much echoed Russian talking points as they’ve voiced their opposition of US support.

If you aren’t familiar with the amount of destruction these drones are capable of, allow me to introduce you to the devastation of Bakhmut.

If we don’t fast track their NATO membership and promised armaments and supplies, Kyiv will soon look like Bakhmut before too long.

The life of Yuri Chumak is one of the heroes I would like to see portrayed on screen. The Marvel Universe is pretty stale in comparison.
