Background

With data from 2001 to date, Symmetrics platform has upwards of 20% of data for high-skilled labor force in the United States (for medium and low-skilled too, but that is another post). For comparison, that is equal to or greater than what ADP (which is a highly profitable HR tech firm and one of the oldest) has per what they claim on job descriptions.

Let’s jump into the 2022 Q3 analysis that is fresh off the oven (The report is very large, hence we will discuss few pages of the report). DOWNLOAD FULL REPORT.

The 2022 Q2 report is here

Snapshot

A high level overview of industries, job categories, employers, law firms, locations etc. is as below

There were totally 511k jobs hired in Q3, which brings total to 909k and that number is already higher than the entire 2021 number (826k). Below compares high level numbers between 2022 Q2 and 2022 Q3

2022 Q2 (left) vs. 2022 Q3 (right)

Industries

Blind and Shade industry had the highest avg. min wage, but the data points were also very few, so there was a desperate need for the company that hired the very few, and hence paid very high. Otherwise “office of physicians” and subsequent ones in the list are similar to that of Q2.

Otherwise in terms of numbers, “Custom Computer Programming” remains at the top

Jobs

As expected software jobs top the ranks, and other engineering (mechanical) and statistical jobs follow. The average salary of software engineer dropped by 3k from 2022 Q2 so did median (3k). This means, more folks got paid slightly lesser than 2022 Q2 median (pulling the value down). Otherwise the top job categories remained the same as that of Q2

Location

CA state obviously hires the most with TX, NY, QA in the next ranks (NY took 3rd place which belonged to WA in Q2). It is interesting to note that more number of jobs doesn’t necessarily translate to cumulative highest pay for e.g. look at Seattle and SFO in the below

Employers

The top employers in terms of number of jobs goes to the obvious ones aka. high tech firms like Google, Amazon, Microsoft and other Indian IT MNCs that supply labor force to other high-tech firms like Cognizant, TCS and so on.

Law Firms

For most high skilled immigration jobs, a capable law firm is required to make the immigration case and secure the visa. Fragomen et al., Berry Appleman et al. and others are expected to be in the top ranks. You can see their performance in terms of number of certified vs. non-certified as well for further consultation

Benchmarking Firms

Benchmarking salary and providing the same during audit is required for many companies as they adhere to various compliances like anti-discrimination, diversity, affirmative action and many more policies to ensure competitiveness etc. in the industry. Many employers hire benchmarking firms to sometimes refer to their database OR re-survey based on changing conditions. The top ones are Radford, Watson Towers and so on

Conclusion

That is a fast forward review of 2022 Q3 high-skilled jobs data.
