While Singapore is well-known as an international financial center, alongside New York, London and Hong Kong, it is also home to many fast-growing blockchain and cryptocurrency start-ups, founders and entrepreneurs.
Here’s a map of the players in Singapore’s blockchain ecosystem.
Vitalik Buterin
Vitalik Buterin, the founder of the Ethereum blockchain is now based in Singapore, having moved from Switzerland in 2016. Ethereum enables developers to build and deploy decentralized applications. Ether (ETH), the cryptocurrency generated by the Ethereum platform, is the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap after Bitcoin.
Altcoins — Litecoin
Litecoin is an open-source cryptocurrency that is one of the largest cryptocurrencies in the world by market cap. Litecoin is one of the earliest forks from Bitcoin, and is well-known for having markedly faster transaction times than Bitcoin.
Litecoin was founded in Singapore by ex-Googler Charlie Lee and the non-profit organization Litecoin Foundation is registered in Singapore.

Coinhako
Coinhako is a fiat-to-crypto cryptocurrency exchange based in Singapore. Coinhako’s founders are Yusho Liu and Gerry Eng. Yusho Liu described himself as “born, educated and raised in Singapore”.
