Decentralized digital societies with EOSIO blockchain technology

The way that current societies/countries work is through a top-down approach to human management from state nation governments, financial institutions and regulation. This work fairly well in some places, and not so well in other places. It does not work very well at organizing humans at a global level. We don’t have a better system, at least not significantly better.

I believe that the technology now exists to build a significantly better system.

A digital peer-to-peer society where people’s lives and data are not controlled or monitored by a big-brother-like entity while still supporting humanity, and incentivizing good behaviour and economic sustainability.

Whether it is actually better I am not sure, but I think we have the responsibility to try.

From my experiences in the blockchain and technology industry, I have created a plan/architecture/concept that I believe will allow people to build and launch new decentralized digital societies.

The plan still has many missing pieces and is bigger than one project. It will require us to come together.

I want to share it with you, here, for free.

^^^ this is it ^^^

(Google Slides, linked to other Google slides)

This contains the architecture of services and dapps that are needed to build an open decentralized digital society, the problems, reasons, and solutions (in some case my own original solutions) to build the system using EOSIO public blockchain technology. The architecture has been tailored for EOSIO, but could be adapted for other technologies (like an Ethereum sidechain).

What do I want to accomplish?

  1. To show people that a decentralized digital society is possible.
  2. Contribute my plan and solutions to how it can fit together.
  3. Provide a goal and a reason to build what is being built using blockchain technology.
  4. To coordinate the teams/efforts building these piece with a vision, and facilitate collaboration.

What’s the biggest difference this will make?

Radically altering the structure of society, so that it operates in a more natural peer-to-peer way. More people are satisfied and empowered with their local and global system. Fewer people feel physically, emotionally or psychologically controlled by the system.

What does the completed version look like?

A group of software applications that are run by people

  1. that run a society/community
  2. that lets people digitally interact with each other peer-to-peer and privately
  3. where the people can decide on the rules of the system and change them efficiently and fairly
  4. in which no big-brother-like entities control the data or rules of the system

I think these types of software will allow people to “deploy” or start new societies, in which people have the option to freely choose and switch between which society they belong to. Such a competitive marketplace for societies will be the ultimate force to drive the optimization of social human systems.

Human problems cannot be solved by software alone, and my concept needs a sustainable cultural element. Luckily, a digital peer-to-peer society actually models real society today better than the current centralized digital paradigm, making the adoption of this concept achievable.

I make no attempts to know more than this in detail. I believe that we are working towards this. My architecture uses current technologies to allow the above to happen, but cannot contemplate all challenges.

What has to be true when this is finished?

This is social evolution, it is never finished.

Why EOSIO blockchain technology?

  • It currently provides the best scalability and user experience.
  • Is currently [one of] the easiest technology for the development of decentralized applications.
  • EOS and TELOS blockchains (both run on EOSIO software) are demonstrating and experimenting with distributed, transparent on-chain governance at a level not seen before.
  • Most closely models the structures and governance needed for the decentralized digital society. That said, the decentralized digital society will need modest changes to its governance structure.

Over the next few weeks, I will be releasing more articles to explain the problems and solutions of the architecture. Please follow me on Medium or Twitter, or join the Telegram group to get these updates and contribute your feedback and ideas. If you are an EOSIO blockchain community member or BP I strongly encourage you to do this.
