I know many of the affiliate marketers will be able to relate to this.
We all Affiliate Marketers started with Amazon. If not then you are a lucky person in this world! Because you just saved yourself from so many painful moments that I am going to describe here today!
I love affiliate marketing. Almost everyone on YouTube recommends starting an Amazon Affiliate Marketing business. But not many tell you the real hurdles behind this.
Amazon Affiliate marketing business is like any other business. What’s the problem with that?
That’s what I thought when someone on Facebook warned us not to get lured away by the YouTube Influencers. But yes, I never listened. I wish I had.
My relationship with Amazon Affiliate Marketing in 5 minutes
- Why do they have a short cookie window? Mostly 24 hours! This means that if a user clicks on my affiliate link but doesn’t make a purchase within that time frame, I don’t earn a commission, even if they eventually make a purchase.
- Low commission rates. No one can argue on this because it is very very low. Not to forget that the products can be expensive. Even if that’s the case, the commissions are still low!
- Competition is high nowadays! Almost everyone who is selling gadgets online, they are an Amazon Affiliate Marketer. I recently saw a travel beauty kit. I loved it. When I clicked on the product it was on Amazon. No other platform! This increases competition a lot.
- Amazon’s product availability can change, and items may go out of stock or become unavailable. If a user clicks on my affiliate link and the product is no longer available, I won’t earn a commission.
- As an affiliate, we are at the mercy of Amazon’s policies and changes to their affiliate program. Amazon can change commission rates, cookie durations, and other program details, impacting our earnings potential.
Some Final Thoughts
I am not saying that no one should do Amazon Affiliate Marketing. I still see that Amazon has the highest conversion rates as compared to other affiliate programs.
This is best as a side hustle. If you want to make anywhere between $100 — $1k then this option is best. Also, make sure you track your money wisely, thats where many beginners go wrong!
But if you wanna make a full-time income SAFELY then go find some other program. There are many programs where you don’t even need a blog or a website. Plus, commissions are recurring as well.
Just cast your net a little wide. Make sure you are not dependent on a single affiliate program!
