1. What is Substratum

Hey guys. At first- I’m not a member oft he Substratum team. I wanted to share my information that the DEV Team is tweeting through the week with those who do not have twitter. And for anyone interested anyway.

At first a short coverage of what substratum is:

  • Substratum is developing an open-source foundation for the decentralized web, providing free, unrestricted, and uncensored access to content for a new Web 3.0
  • The Substratum Network is a worldwide collection of nodes that uses industry-leading cryptography to deliver secure content anywhere, all without the need for VPNs or Tor.

The SUB- Dev-Team seems to deliver very fast. As you can see in the follwing text, the Substratum-Node release is getting closer. (currently between 5 and 19 Weeks). The Node will include security and monetasation. You will be able to earn cryptocurrency.

Now the hot DEV updates :-)

2. Developement Updates Week 10–2019

The Substratum Devs are very active on twitter, spreading their updates through it. I’m aware most people don’t have twitter. That’s why I made these weekly articles. Here the relevant tweets from week 10. Mar 4 -10.

Mar. 4 B.J. Allmon

Tweet: Happy Monday! Today the $SUB dev team was able to get some more modularization tech debt completed along with a bug fix that I’ll post a link to. The bug fix corrects a strange behavior caused by the GUI’s sudo prompt library. Enjoy!

Tweet: Since development began on #SubstratumNode, the team has met once a week to ‘Show & Tell’ the week’s accomplishments. A summary of this past Friday’s meeting is now available. @SubstratumNet

Mar. 4 Dan Wiebe

Tweet: @sci4me and I moved two cards today — one fixing TNT so we can do Shows for Show & Tell, and one finishing up the absorption of peripheral crates into Node. That last one was a 150-file pull request: the largest the company has ever seen, I think.

Tweet: Forgot to mention the $SUB dev team brought the TNT framework back up to snuff with the latest changes to Node. Enjoy!

Mar. 5 Dan Wiebe

Tweet: We had our first in-depth design session on banning this morning. Much more interesting a process than I expected it to be. We also discussed how to send only partial Gossip if everything you know is signed. Can’t have clean edges: there will be raw connection ends.

Mar. 5 B.J. Allmon

Tweet: Happy Tuesday! So far today the $SUB dev team completed the final pieces of tech debt for making node a truly modular Rust app. They also fixed a home directory bug. We also spent time in our weekly design session discussing node banning. For the latest:

Mar. 5 Dan Wiebe

Tweet: Well, the Blockchain Bridge has been born. It’s barely alive in the public repo, responding only to the BindMessage, and then only with a log. But it’s about to get a little friskier…

Mar. 6 B.J. Allmon

Tweet: Happy Wednesday! $SUB dev team is off to the races creating the Node Blockchain component reclining skeleton for SUB monetization. This component will interface with the chosen underlying architecture and will be flexible if we ever need to change later.

Mar. 6 B.J. Allmon

Tweet: The $SUB dev team completed a card titled “No Mooching” recently. Node now refuses to provide exit services to others that provide no wallet address for their Node and consumption. Enjoy!

Mar. 6 B.J. Allmon

Tweet: The $SUB dev team just completed a feature that now allows Node to utilize a wallet public and private key for consumption. This is currently being performed with an environment variable and plan to eventually integrate keychain type integration.

Tweet: When you visualize your capacity and with practice you are able to make better tactical adjustments as your team goes and ensure things are balanced as good as they can be. Here’s an example of our progression this week as cards were completed and adjustments were made in i18.

Mar. 7 Dan Wiebe

Tweet: Kevin and I are having fun twiddling the Gossip-handling rules for a Node, trying to predict the large-scale effects of the changes, and then being thunderstruck by the reality. It’s like herding ants. We need a mathematician.

The development team has been tweeting about features going to production daily to the open source repositories (Node and TNT). The team also made the weekly show and tell meeting available to Substratum community moderators to help equip them on status and to help them with a more ongoing open Q&A practice with them.” (https://substratum.net)
