Check out My Child Has ODD (Part 2) here.

The move.

My husband called his family in a different state and told them the situation we were having with Bee, my daughter. They said she needs a village on her side. Come stay with us. So, we did. It just felt like the right thing to do. It wasn’t the easiest thing to do; we have a house and I have a job that I had been growing in for almost 4 years. But I had to start thinking about what Bee needed mentally. Three weeks later, we moved 1600 miles away.

Bee said she wanted a change, but it seemed like the change she wanted was to let her do her own thing. She started stealing from the people we were staying at. They got to witness her hitting both me and my husband. They sat her down and told her the consequences if this happened again.

About a month later, Bee took a whole bunch of medicine and we landed in the hospital. She was then admitted into another psychiatric hospital for another 5 days. She came out and said she really wanted to change this time.

Her change.

Her new doctor changed her medication. He ran some tests on her and found out that her Vitamin D levels were severely low, and her thyroid levels are off. Bee’s ultrasound showed her thyroid is enlarged. He stated that the thyroid plays a major part on mental health. We have an appointment with an endocrinologist in the next couple of months.

Bee is in a weekly counseling session. They are trying to dig deeper than just her anger. They are working on boundaries, goals, values, self-respect, and self-esteem.

Just in the 2 months that she has been on different medications and a different strategy on counseling, I have never seen Bee so happy and calm. It is actually truly amazing. She has not hit me or my husband, has not stolen anything, her grades are up, and she has not relapsed on her harming herself.

I will continue to update these stories about Bee. Maybe one day she will start her own blog on here.
