These apps are mostly tools when studying Japanese or living in Japan.I have been using these apps ever since I got my first smartphone. All these apps are free! Some would offer a pro version of the app but it only removes ads in the apps.

1. gogoNavi Japanese English Offline

This is a translator app that has a wide range of vocabulary words. It’s very user friendly and the interface is very simple. You can translate from English to Japanese and vice versa. The app can also translate phrasal verbs and expressions. It also show the usage of the words (nouns, verbs, adjective, etc). 2. Google Translate

Another great translator app for those learning Japanese is Google Translate. You might say that this is a mediocre recommendation but the best feature it has are the camera and writing input. 3. NariTra

This useful translator is really great for travelers. I came across this app when I was inside Narita Airport, going back to my hometown. It came handy when I first came to visit Japan and never had a high conversational level. The instructions are very straightforward. You just need to press the mic icon and speak. 4. Japanese

The name might be very simple yet this app is one of the coolest one out there. Upon opening the app, you’ll see Japanese words moving sideways. The words are in this app is well organized (by classification, lexical categories and JLPT). 5. Japanese English Dictionary, Translator & Phrase

As the app title goes, this one is an all in one Japanese learning tool! It has a dictionary, a translator and a phrase book. What’s even better is that this app is a total package for Japanese learners. It has a “word, phrase and quote of the day” and you can even make your own flash cards. But wait, there’s more!
