Hey! Welcome. Today, we’ll be telling the story of Drift: one of Fortnite’s most iconic Loopers.

Drift is a street artist who came from our reality— which we’ll call Ground Zero — into Reality Zero during Chapter 1, Season 5. He was teleported as he painted the Durr Burger anomaly.

It’s unknown if Drift’s arrival to the Island was caused by the Imagined Order, or an accident. When the Durr Burger appeared in Ground Zero, the IO sent a small team of Agents to analyze and secure the anomaly. However, Drift ignored their warnings, thus leading to his introduction to the Island’s chaos.

As he became more familiar with the Island’s nature, he met a small team of Loopers composed of Brite Bomber, Rex and Cuddle Team Leader. We can assume Drift’s story was told outside of the Loop, as there’s certain events told — which we’ll discuss later — that could only happen extra-loop.

Drift forged bonds with most he met on his journey, travelling through the Island in a series of Loading Screens released sequentially as the Season went on. From golfing, to racing and pool parties, this group of explorers made sure he went through everything. Maybe the Island isn’t so bad after all.

The group started doing more casual activities, like watching films at Risky Reels’ Drive-In Theater, as Drift and Brite Bomber formed a deeper relationship. Drift begins to develop a type of controllable inter-dimensional power, possible consequence of his unprotected travel to Reality Zero. (as seen in his mask, which we’ll get to later!)

However, as the group settled down in the Motel close to Lazy Links, a team of Enforcers suddenly turned their stay into a chaotic situation. Returning the Motel’s sign — as it was transported to another reality thanks to the events of previous season’s “Blast Off!” event — this team of reality-fixers forced our group of friends into other corners of the Island.

The return of the sign occurred outside of the Loop. It’s unclear if the IO is comfortable with Loopers escaping the Island’s combat (and roaming freely), but the Enforcers seem upset with the group’s presence at the anomaly site.

After his encounters with the Cube in the tail end of Chapter 1, Season 5, Drift remains low for a while. He returns during Chapter 1, Season 9 alongside Brite Bomber, during the season’s Summer event. This seems to be himself, and not just a Snapshot left after the events of his introduction.

Glad to see he’s still having a good time.

Chapter 1, Season X introduces a gender-bent version of Drift. It’s unknown how Catalyst obtained her inter-dimensional powers, as she seems to have entered the Island already possessing them.

Drift’s relationship with Brite Bomber is then confirmed by Chapter 2, Season 2’s Story Trailer. However, the pair’s signature seems to be scratched, suggesting a possible break-up. I’m sure their snapshots are still fine, though!

During Chapter 2, Season 5, the Fox Warrior Vi announces the existence of a Fox Clan, who’s last remaining member is herself. She says Drift’s mask — which was given to him by an unknown individual — belongs to the Fox Clan and makes him a target. Calling for Drift’s help as she escapes from an unknown and ancient evil, her efforts seem to pay off.

As seen in the Fortnite Crew’s “Fox Clan Reborn” Loading Screen, Vi has managed to gather not only Drift himself, but Catalyst as well. This remains the last we’ve seen of our inter-dimensional street artist, for now.

Conclusion

It’s unknown if Drift still roams the Island after assisting Vi and her clan, but one thing’s certain: He was forever changed after not only his reality travelling, but his experiences with the Island’s best.
