Trying to become a Data Scientist is very tedious journey. Trust me, at 1st you may enjoy it but as you go further it takes forever to complete. Personally I know 2 people who are learning Data Science and Machine Learning. One them settled in a MNC as a Data engineer. He worked only 3–4 hours a week for 1–2 years. He completed a PG Diploma Certification program in Upgrad. While the other had completed 2 PG Diplomas (Data Science and Machine Learning, and the other in Artificial Intelligence), and is also completed MS in Machine Learning and Deep Learning in Liverpool University in London
(via Upgrad). He was working wearily for 3 years for now, but not even got into the 2nd Interview. The Diplomas and MS I mentioned are just the long term study. He did many part time courses in Udemy, Coursera (Google Data Analyst Program), Coursera (IBM Certification), and even Certification by Kaggle also. Trust me, When I first saw his resume I thought, damn no one can work as hard as he did. But Why did you think he didn’t get a Job? Hold that thought I will explain you in a minute.

First thing first, the 10 reasons for a data science aspirer to learn MS Excel are……. Well, there are none. Sorry, Sorry but don’t get angry. There is a good reason for me to put the heading like that.

When people start learn a new skill, they tend to dive into the main objectives (Which is great, TBH) but Data science is not just any skill. It is more of a research. The study of Data Science is continuously Growing day by day, second to second.

Tell me honestly how many of you opened this story just because I mentioned 10 Reasons in the heading. Its not the bad thing. We humans can’t just interpret anything with Single Sample Data ( Which in this case is just 1 reason). We need multiple samples to interpret anything. Infact there is a study where about infants: Which tells that, new born babies can’t understand anything because the amount of information given to them are very less in quantity. Simply the data is not sufficient for them to analyze the situation.- more about that later. Coming to our Question (Why is Excel important to a DS aspirer) is simply this:

Data Science is more about observing statistical models to visualize and draw conclusions than leaning a PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE.

See, when learning about various types of Traditional Data Science Techniques such as Regression, Clustering -(Advanced Statistical Models- more on that later), we need to visualize the given data. So, you have to learn a programming language such as Python or R, But what about learning the basics of statistics, like Various Distributions (Normal, Student’s-T)? How do you visualize them. of course you can say that we can learn other courses such as Tableau, Power BI but isn’t it important for you to know how a data work when we try to manipulate them or visualize them?

This is when Excel comes into play. Although it cannot store data as much as Tableau or any other thing. But this is will help you to learn the complete basics of Statistical Models.

So if you want to know why excel is important for Data Science beginners.

If you want to learn Excel here is a best website.

The story I left Why? is for an other day.
