The Patterns

  • A lot of the headlines above have numbers.
  • A lot of the headlines address a problem and point out that the article/video has the solution.
  • Many articles are of the “how-to” format.
  • Title case is easier to read. And it’s the standard for writing headlines. So, many are written in the title case.
  • All the headlines above have 8 words on average. The smallest ones have 4 words and the longest one has 14.
  • Many headlines above have parenthesis (Increases click-through rate).
  • They have a reading level of 5.7 on the Flesch-Kincaid readability test. Meaning: They’re easy to read and a child could easily comprehend most of them.
  • Those headlines include the same words as the headline’s intended audience is familiar with.
