CHAPTER 32: SMILE

Carrie looked at herself in the bathroom mirror for the first time in years. It was the first time in all those years she could actually see herself –– her true self –– since the time that self was taken away from her.

And amid her bristly hair, slightly emaciated cheeks, crow’s feet starting to stretch across her sandy complexion, there was something cast back in the reflection. Something that neither time nor death nor undeath could undo.

And for the first time in as equally long a time, Carrie smiled.
