Useful tips for people like me, who are terrified of writing.

To be completely honest, writing scares me. It sometimes seems like a mental childbirth. I don’t know how to express what I want to say. I don’t know where to begin. I write a sentence — I look at it and hate it. I usually change the sentence a few times, and then totally lose my train of thought. I often either knock out only a few words or elaborate too much. Writing is difficult!

That’s why I thought it would be nice to share my tips, techniques, processes…

An abstract, simple but powerful way of thinking about systems based on how we perceive the world around us.

Through this article I would like to share my findings from my ongoing 2 years of research into design systems and design tools called project Worlds.

Having said this, I realise I didn’t reinvent the wheel. I am aware that there are similar ideas, concepts and products floating around like React, Figma, Sketch, Modulz or Framer X. All of this might be nothing new for game developers either.

However, I think there’s much to be gained when looking at design systems from a (literally) different perspective. …

After a year, I am launching the new and improved version of the game reference website for game creators and game fans.

It is my utmost pleasure to announce that almost exactly a year after launching the original GamesWatch website in 2018 I am launching the new and improved version of the game reference website for game creators and game fans. For those of you who aren’t familiar with GamesWatch, I would like to tell you about what it is and how it came to be.

The initial idea of GamesWatch came to me back in 2017 while I was playing Mad Max on PS4. I was enjoying the the game and its small design details so, so much. It made me…

Over the past months we’ve been designing and developing Virdi, a service that aims to make the Norwegian housing market more transparent. Right now, it provides an overview of real estate market prices; when you’re looking to buy or sell a home, you can consult Virdi to find out how much a place is worth paying for.

As you can read in our short case study, we opted for a system-based design approach that allowed us to iterate quickly. Before launching the Virdi beta we took the time to test the service with prospective users.

I’m making a real Apple-esque emoji for every one of my colleagues in Bakken & Bæck. The first finished set includes everyone from our Amsterdam office.

It all started with Drake. As a surprise, I wanted to create a real what-if-Apple-made-it emoji of 6 God for my colleague Ole Martin. This made me wonder: what would our own emoji look like? I got excited about the possibilities: we could use them in Slack, create a big poster with all our emoji to hang in each office, or print them on mugs!

I had never done anything like this and I…

Last week I visited Oslo, the capital city of Norway, with my fellow designer friend Jana Papierniková. Growing up in post-soviet Slovakia and living in its capital Bratislava, a city that forgot about its pedestrians, where governing garniture builds parking spots upon Celtic monuments, where a cultural hub with such a cultural heritage as Cvernovka is being demolished and now is being cancelled, I’ve always wished there are some better places for people to live.

Oslo tops lists of best cities to live in as well as being among the most expensive to live in. I’ve always wanted to visit…

As designers, we want to move as fast as our ideas and design without restraints. We need to experiment freely and explore all the possibilities. Sketch supports this kind of creativity because it’s an universal drawing-based tool. The possibilities of visual expression are almost limitless.

However, maintaining large projects can become quite difficult with no automating options. That’s why I would like to share my ideas of what to add. I’m aware that some of these features already exist in plugin form (like Fluid), but I developed them further and improved them based on my experience and my needs. …

After working 4 years in the field of digital design I got obsessed with tidying up and sorting information. This lead to the creation of a systematic approach for designing user interfaces.

It is an object-oriented, programming-inspired approach, a collection of various ideas that are universal. Use it for working with your favourite design software or for coding. It helps to connect designers with programmers and puts them on the same page — better communication leads to a better understanding and creating better things.

This approach is used mainly at a later designing stage, usually during finetuning of the project…
