A plugin to create nice scatter plots. Adds a new ranking transformer for X/Y/Z positions in the Appearance Window The position of nodes is set according to the ranking output.

Gephi is a tool for data analysts and scientists keen to explore and understand graphs. Like Photoshop™ but for graph data, the user interacts with the representation, manipulate the structures, shapes and colors to reveal hidden patterns [1].

The goal is to help data analysts to make hypothesis, intuitively discover patterns, isolate structure singularities or faults during data sourcing. It is a complementary tool to traditional statistics, as visual thinking with interactive interfaces is now recognized to facilitate reasoning. This is a software for Exploratory Data Analysis, a paradigm appeared in the Visual Analytics field of research[1,2].

Plugins

The built-in Plugins Center automatically gets the list of plugins available from the Gephi Plugin portal and takes care of all software updates. There are dozens of community-built plugins that extends Gephi’s functionalities [1].

Position Ranking Plugin

Position Ranking is a plugin to map an attribute into the X/Y/Z coordinate to create nice scatter plots [3].

As any other ranking, it is possible to choose the spline, the minimal and maximal values.

How to use this plugin?

Download this plugin here, once you download it you will see its icon (red circle) in the appearance section of Gephi, then you can adjust the parameters by the attributes you want depending on the information that your network contains, so you will get the different types of networks (see example).
